CHAPTER 68 - HIS PLAN
When I opened my eyes, I noticed the room was dimmed. The soft glow of the lamp in the corner provided a cozy ambiance, casting long shadows on the walls.
I tried to recall what happened before I fell asleep, but my memory was hazy, as if a dream had swept away the events of the day.
A dream?
And then, it hit me.
Suddenly, memories of my conversation with Andreas and Beatrice came to me. The accident, waking up in a hospital bed, and the heart-wrenching news that Theo had forgotten about me--all memories of me.
And the devastating news that the Don is dead.
It was all a dream?
Relief washed over me as I realized that none of it had actually happened. They were all just figments of my imagination!
It was just my anxious mind playing tricks on me, a twisted creation of my subconscious thoughts.
Of course, it makes sense.
After that traumatic experience, it's normal to have vivid and unsettling dreams. Our minds often process emotions and fears during sleep, and it seems like my subconscious was grappling with recent events in my life, and hitting me where it would hurt me the most--losing Theo.
As I reflected on that nightmare, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the reality I woke up to, where Theo was still by my side, and the Don was alive and well.
I sat up with a smile on my face, and for a moment, I allowed myself to bask in the comforting embrace of reality, grateful that the weight of those imagined fears had been lifted off my shoulders.
It was all just a very bad dream like what happened before. I thought.
But, as I finally shook off the remnants of that haunting dream, a lingering sense of unease settled in. I couldn't ignore the nagging feeling that perhaps my dream was more than just a random creation of my subconscious, but a...
A faint beeping sound caught my attention, making me fully aware of my surroundings. As I turned my head, I saw the hospital machine blinking with numbers and lines on the screen, confirming that I was indeed lying in a hospital bed.
I was in the hospital.
Doubt and unease crept back into my mind, making me question whether I had truly woken up from the nightmare or if I was still trapped in its clutches.
As I adjusted my eyesight and scanned the room I was in, my eyes landed on someone who was standing just beside the window, looking serious as he was talking to someone over the phone.
It was Andreas.
The sight of him only confirmed my worst fears, shattering the illusion of a dream and thrusting me back into the harsh truth of my situation.
The accident, the hospital bed, Theo forgetting about me, and even the heartbreaking news of the Don's death--it's not a dream. It all happened. That so-called nightmare was simply the painful truth I was desperately trying so hard to run away from.
As if sensing my gaze, Andreas turned to me and immediately ended the phone call. His eyes met mine, filled with a mix of concern and relief. "Amelia," he said softly, as he approached my bedside. His presence was a bittersweet reminder that I was still trapped in this harsh reality.
Shortly after, Beatrice entered the room with a cup in her hand, her face etched with worry. She carefully placed the cup on the bedside table and sat beside me. "How are you feeling?"
