Happiness

I walked into the tall building with my friend Skyler. It was homecoming and I wanted it to be perfect. new school, new friends, new people.

"Ew, look who's here" she scoffed making eye contact into the crowd.

I scanned the dark crowd spotting eyes with my crush. He's been playing me for a couple weeks now, but I just can't shake the feeling of liking him.

"Let's just go okay?" she said grabbing my hand pulling me towards the leather seats in the building.

I looked around the room spotting my best friend Shawn.

"Shawn!" I shouted waving him over.

"Oh hey, y/n" he said approaching us quickly. "Hey Skyler"

She nodded and smiled continuing to look at her phone.

"Dancing the night away?" I chuckled.

He blushed and chuckled.

"Oh for sure! You guys should come dance"

I shook my head and Skyler pushed me towards him.

"Just go dance, I'm gonna go find some people" she said leaning in so I could hear.

Shawn pulled my hand towards the center and we dance crazily. I saw my crush Patrick dancing awkwardly with his guy friends.

"Is that the boy you like?" Shawn asked.

I smiled and nodded.

"Why don't you go dance with him on the next song, I dare you" he chuckled.

"Okay, I'll take that dare" I replied with a smirk.

He nodded and shook my hand. The music slowed down and Shawn pushed me towards Patrick who was sitting on the leather couches.

"Hey whats wrong?" I asked sitting next to him.

"Just bored, I guess" he replied shrugging looking like a sad puppy dog.

I looked over Shawn who gave me a two thumbs up.

"Hey Patrick, you wanna dance?" I asked nervously.

"No, it's okay" he chuckled.

"Awe come on" I whined.

"Okay" he sighed getting up and walking with me towards the center.

"You don't even have to put your hands on my waist" I chuckled.

But he did it anyways and my hands began to shake. I put my hands on his shoulders and sighed.

"this is awkward" he chuckled.

"So do you just want me to drop my hands?" i teased dropping them to the side.

"No, like, wrap them around my neck" he smiled.

I smiled and did so. He was so cute and kind. He smiled every time I looked into those deep blue eyes. The song ended and my hand traveled down his arm as I left the dance floor. I thanked him trying to act cool. I grabbed Shawn pulling him outside of the dance.

"Oh my god, Shawn I can't stop shaking!" I said nervously showing him my hands.

He grabbed them and chuckled.

"Hey, I'm proud of you" he smiled.

I smiled back and I went inside. When, I scanned the room for Skyler, I saw Patrick dancing with another girl. I tried to be happy because I got him to dance, but I wasn't. I began to breathe heavily as I looked for Skyler. I needed her.

"Y/n, are you okay?" Shawn asked.

I shook my head and the tears began to build up in my eyes.

"Do you want me to take you home" he asked worried.

I fell to the ground and began to sob. Shawn picked me up and put me on his back carrying him outside of the school.

"Y/N?" Shawn asked holding my face.

"Why do I always try to make people happy, even if it doesn't make me happy?" I sobbed to him.

He sighed and looked at the floor.

"Because you feel the need to make everyone happy, because you're a good fucking person y/n" he said grabbing my hands.

I sniffled and shook my head.

"I can't help it, it makes me sad to see others sad and when I saw Patrick being so depressed on the couches I wanted to make him happy" I replied.

"I know, but you can't make everyone happy y/n, you have to make yourself happy" he said sighing.

"It's so hard though when nothing makes me happy-"

He stopped me by pressing his lips on mine. He pulled me in closer holding my hips. I never thought I be in this moment, to be happy for once.

this was uh, based on a true story. It actually happened to me tonight and it was the worst because I didn't kiss Shawn. I didn't kiss any boy for that matter. oh and i didnt have some guy friend sweep me off my feet, my friend and i just left. i just went to home feeling unhappy, as i always will. but uh, bye and i love you guys. thanks for reading
