Movie 9: Final Destination 5 (2011)

Movie Summary:

            A group of people from work are going off to a retreat. Sam the main character is upset on the ride, since his girlfriend Molly wants to break up with him. There are six others on the bus, Dennis the boss, Peter and his intern/girlfriend Candice, Olivia, Isaac, and Sam’s friend Nathan.

            Soon the bus goes over a bridge under construction, Sam cuts his finger on the seat and an old song blasts on the bus’s radio. Everyone doesn’t seem to care, but then a large crack forms on the bridge infront of them. Everyone gets off the bus except Isacc who was in the back on his cellphone. While running out of the bus Candice falls off the bridge and lands on the tip of a sailboats flag post, the metal goes right through her pulling out organs. Soon after the bus goes down and takes Isaac with it. They all continue to run, but Dennis falls and gets splashed in the face with boiling tar. He falls off the bridge and dies. Next Nathan is running after Sam but is killed by a falling wire holding up the bridge. Sam is able to get Molly across to the secure side but goes back to Olivia to help her across. She is crossing the metal structure but fall off, for a second she’s alive in the water but a car falls and kills her. Peter cathes up to Sam and the two jump to the other side where the hold on to the fallen railing. However a truck holding metal pipes and sheets is falling, and the pipes pierce through Peter, killing him instantly. Last to die is Sam, the metal sheet cuts him in half.

            Sam then wakes up in the bus, he freaks out, and then cuts his finger, soon the song plays and he panicks for everyone to get off the bus, that the bridge will collapse. He gets Molly off, and the others follow. The whole group reaches the secure side and watches in terror as the bridge collapses.

            A few days go by and the group attends a memorial for the people that did die on the bridge, there Sam meets an odd man telling them they cant cheat death, unless they kill someone to take their place.

            The next day Candice is at a gymnastics practice, and Peter is supporting her, however multiple things go wrong. A live wire, in a puddle of water, a creaky bar, a rusty nail in the beams, and an unusauly loud and old air conditioner.  While on the beams Candice comes close to stepping on the nail, but misses it, she comes close to stepping in the puddle, but throws her towel on it. By the time she’s swinging on the high bars, another girl is walking the beam, she steps on the nail, and cries out and bumps into a low fan, the fan turns and blows hand powder into the bar Candice is on, loosing balance and sight from the thick dust, Candice lets go and falls. Her fall cracks her back caousing her feet to be at her ears, and legs broken by the impact.

            Following Candice’s death Isaac goes to a spa for relaxing treatment, he expects more from the receptionest but ends up getting his bones cracked by an older Chinese woman. She then sticks thin needle lightly into his skin. Finally relaxed Isaac closes his eyes. But with all the lit candles one falls, causing a small fire, rubbing alchohal also falls causing it to grow, Isaac realizes what has happened and calls for help, he then roles off the table and the needle puncture him deeper, still alive he is greatfull that the fire from the alcohal did not reach him, lying on the ground he is relived to still be alive. Unfourtanetly for him a heavy head statue falls and crushes his head off.

            The remaining group suspects something isn’t right. Sam realizes that they are dying on order from his ‘vision’. He tells them Nathan is next and then Dennis.

            Meanwhile Nathan is having problems with an employee at the construction site he is working at. He confronts him and they begin to argue, Nathan notices a large hook hanging from the ceiling coming close to them, he warns his employee but he doesn’t listen. Nathan pushes him off of him, and steps back. The hook/crane hits the worker and goes into his head leaving him hanging dead.

            Sam, Molly and Peter see what has happened and belive death will no longer go after Nathan. They are right, Dennis comes to see what happens but a tool goes through his head. Sam and Molly then try to find Olivia, before its too late.

            Olivia is getting laser eye surgery, she is extremely scared, but the doctor is reassuring her. He places the eye lid holders on one eye, and strap her head in, he then has to step out to get more information from her file. While he closes the door, a cup on a water jug falls off and splashes over an outlet, the wires react and the amount of laser is being affected and goes way over the highest limit. Olivia hears all this beeping and panics, she reaches for the controls to press the emergency stop, but ends up dropping it causing it to start. The high laser burns at her one eye, and her hand ries to cover her eye, she is stuck and cant unscrew the head piece. Meanwhile Sam and Molly arrive telling the doctor she is in danger. The doctor reassures them, but they hear Olivia screaming. They rush in to see what has happened. Olivia’s eye is badly burned, but she trips over the eye of a teddy bear she pulled out and falls out the window, crashing and dying on a car.

            Sam and Molly then realize that they cant change his fate, and so he decides to move to Paris in two weeks for a cooking internship. Molly agrees to go with him. That night he makes her a romantic dessert when Peter knocks at the closed resteraunt Sam works at. He lets Peter in. Peter is distressed and is thinking about killing someone so he can live. He points his gun at Molly who survived the bridge in Sam’s vision. Sam fights Peter. It isn’t until they are in the kitchen that an FBI agent walks in. Peter kills him. He also wants to kill Molly still since she saw the incident. Sam ends up killing Peter. The two are somewhat happy since, now Sam won’t die since he has replaced his death with Peter’s since Peter has the agents life.

            Exactly two weeks later Sam and Molly are on a plane on their way to Paris. However once they have taken off, Sam over hears to attendants talking about some kid that freaked out saying the plane was going to crash. Immediately Sam cuts his finger on his chair, and that same song he heard on the bus plays. He shuts it off, knowing the plane will crash. He then spots the plane’s engine in flames, his side of the planes exterior is ripped off and Molly goes flying into night sky. Soon after Sam is killed with a powerful blast of fire, burning his skin off. That very moment, the plane crashes on land, and into a bar Nathan was drinking in, his arm goes flying off as does all his body parts. THE END!!!

My Review:

            I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Firstly I loved the deaths, they kept me at the edge of my seat, and cringing in anticipation. Especially that gymnastics scene, it was really crazy and kept my interested. Besides the gymnasts death, all the others were very gross, and cool. As weird as that may sound, this movie was cool.

            What I really liked was the ending. I liked how it connected to the plane final destination movie. That was quite good. I also liked how after that they showed all the deaths from all the Final Destination movies, that was a nice touch to wrap up the five movies.

            Now, what I did not like was the fact that all these movies were the same. The vision, the saving, the killing and the ending. It gets very repetitive. I’ve seen two other of the final destination movies and don’t really need to see the other two since they all have the same story line. It does get a bit boring.

            So if you’re a final destination fan, for sure you should check this out. I liked this one better then the air plane one, and the rollar coaster one.
