It's Saturday
Mei's going to the cinema
with her family
and I'm sitting
in the cold kitchen
making breakfast
for my sisters.It's my birthday,
I think solemnly,
and Father's stormed out
leaving Aoi sobbing,
in their bedroom.
It's been an hour
and she hasn't come down yet.
I'm worried about Joeas
because he's with her
upstairs
in their bedroom.I set down three bowls
of Wheaties and sugar
and make another one.
I head slowly up the stairs,
holding the plastic bowl
with careful hands.
The milk sloshes around
and spills anyway
like it's trying to spite me.I stand outside Aoi's door.
It's unnervingly silent
but I gulp down
my nervousness,
balance the bowl
and knock timidly."It's me Aoi,
do you want something to eat?"There's a moment of silence
and I barely have time
to savor it when I hear"Go away, b*tch!
This is your f*cking fault.
I hope you die. I hope you all die.
I hate you.
I don't know what he sees in her.
She's going to steal him from me.
You're f*cking whore of a mother
is going to steal him from me!"
