"Harmony?"

Mother walks in without knocking

and I frown at her.

"What?"

She gives me a look

that I can't figure out
before perching on the edge of my bed.

"Come here?"
She pats the empty space
next to her.

I pause.

Orsai used to say

Mother was "a nosy bitch,
always poking her nose
where it didn't belong"

and that she thought Mother

spied on us
or tried to eavesdrop
on our secret conversations.

So I hesitate.
But I can't for long
without making her suspicious
so I walk over

and sit down.

"You rushed up to your room
when you came back from school,
I didn't get the chance to

ask you how your day was..."

She trails off,
expecting me to answer.

I'm carefully expressionless.

"It was good.
Normal."
