It was a bad night.

Father was here
and I could hear him
arguing with Mother
in our language
through where the wall
separated my room from Mother's.

"I let you live here
I let you see your children again"

Mother hissed,

"Don't even try to persuade me
into being civil with that woman. "

"The kids should stay together,
I don't want them to grow apart."

Father yelled back.

"It's ironic, really it is.
You should've thought of that before."

"I don't give a-" He swore.
"They're my kids!
I'll do with them as I please."

"You can try, you-" more swearing.
"But if you think for one moment
that this will be good for
any of us,
then you're in for a nasty shock."
