When father comes back
Aoi locks herself in her room
With all three of her kids
And leaves Suki and I
To face him alone.
I jump out of my skin
When he calls us to sit with him
In the kitchen
Suki's nervous but she follows him
And I pretend like I don't
Have
A
Single
Clue
As to what he wants
to talk to us about.
We slid into the breakfast table
Opposite where Father sits
And we wait for him
To speak
To shout
To anything.
He openes his mouth
And I feel Suki suppress a flinch
"Girls, I need to tell you something."
He looks us right in the eye,
Unwavering,
Confident,
But it's only a mask
I can see he's feeling anxious too
Suki and I nod.
"Would you like to meet your mother again?"
