Then we were on a plane,
to somewhere in Europe.
Father's new overseas job had
paid for the expenses.

He enrolled me to school.

Sukina to nursery.

We rarely saw each other...
rarely played together,

Suki was in bed by the time Father brought me home from hell.

First day memories
of children laughing
and screaming out words that I couldn't  c o m p r e h e n d.

The only word I knew was

"Hello"

but I quickly learnt that
it was better to say

"Go away"

Chants and garbled attempts
to talk in Chinese, to mock
the way my eyes slanted,
and the food I ate.
