Chapter 13- Invitations

Eve took a deep breath. She opened the custodians door and peered out. No sign of help. She lifted Max onto her back. She walked out.
Does this boy way a ton? She said in her mind as they walked down the hall. She had no idea where the nurse's office was. Why would she walk back to the roof? Where would she go? Then it came to her.
She walked into the elevator. She waited a minute and the doors opened. She rushed herself out the doors. She tried to run, but Max weighed her down. She finally found the door and knocked urgently.
  "Hello. Who is it?" came a familiar voice behind the door
  "Mr. Adam let me in" she called
  The door cracked open. She could see Mr. Adam's tired eyes through the crack. He opened the door fully this time.
  "What's wrong with him" Mr. Adam asked Eve as she set Max on his bed
  "Well I was....doing things, and when we went to leave, he ran off. I chased him down a hall. He grabbed me, pulled me into a custodians closet, and told me my death has come"
  "What did he say exactly" asked Mr. Adam
  "He said that someone is here in the base. The guy is here to get me. He might blow the school up. Poor Max saw the person walk in" she gulped "and threatened him. Why do I feel like it's all my fault? I don't want anyone to die because of me"
  Mr. Adam put his arm on her shoulder "Calm down Eve"
  "Then Max collapsed right in front of me. I had to carry him here" she looked over to Max who was still unconscious
  "He'll be ok. I'll just give him some medicine once he wakes up. Are you ok"
  "Yeah I'm fine. It's not like I'm being watched or anything" she back talked
  "I meant physically" he corrected
  Eve examined her body "No. I'm alright"
  "Ok see you tomorrow morning"
  Eve looked up "What about Max"
  Mr. Adam looked over at the boy. Then looked back at Eve "He can stay here for now or until he wakes up"
  "What do I tell my-" Mr. Adam shoved her through the door before he could answer
Guess someone really likes sleeping. She walked back to the roof. When she got up there, they all looked surprised to see her alone.
  "Where's Max" questioned CJ
  Eve paused "Oh....um...he....is...um... in the bathroom. He told me to tell you guys that he's going back to his room"
  "Oh ok" Tom shrugged
  "It's getting late. I think we should head to Tom's place now" Marco looked up at the night sky filled with twinkling stares. It was one o'clock.
  "I agree. The temperature has dropped dramatically" Jada shivered
  They walked down the halls again. Eve worried who the mystery person could be. Could she trust anyone anymore? I should try to forget that. I'm trying to have a good time here.

  "This is your side" Amber pointed to the left. "This is ours" she pointed to the right
  "In my opinion I think we should all sleep together" Tammy set out her blanket
  "Not helping" Amber shot a glare at her
  "I don't see why not" Matt stated, and Eve blushed remembering the mistake she made the night before.
  "Then it's settled. We are having a mega sleepover" Tom announced. They all cheered except Amber.
  "Fine" she groaned. The kids cheered at her acceptance. They collected their blankets and pillows and made a circle in the center of the room.
"This is going to be so fun. What do you want to do? Tell stories, or sing to music, or have a dance party, or" Tammy went on
"Or we could play video games" Tom suggested
"What games" May asked
"Nah the zboy is broken" CJ announced trying to get it started
May put her controller away "Man"
"I guess we can tell stories" Marco sat next to May in the circle
"Yay I love stories. Jessie tells me ones all the time. There was this one where a cat got stuck in my bag. I don't know how it got there. It kept clawing my homework. I had to get a new bag. It was blue and red. Or was it yellow and green? I can't remember" Tammy smiled
  They acted like normal kids having a normal sleepover. They passed out pictures of Tom when he got pranked. They all laughed. He went to take a bath.
  "Yes blackmail. It rests in my hands. Just think of all the evil things I can do with this" Amber held up the photo
  They told some more stories of how they got there. Some told stories about their family. It was a story telling hour for them. Until they heard a knock.
  Knock. They all shushed down. Amber, being one of the owners of the room, answered with "who's there". There was no response. Instead a sheet of paper slide under the door. Amber cautiously went over and picked it up.
  Then a smile emerged on her face. She looked up at us. Then back down to the paper.
  "Well don't just stand there. What does it say?" May pushed impatiently
  Amber ran over to them "Guys. The Big Ball Bash is Monday night"
  "Oh I thought it was something important" May said disappointed
  "It is important. It's one of the biggest parties we have through out the whole year. I heard a guy broke his leg dancing" CJ commented
  "Oh I love parties. I love the dresses, the music, the food, the games, the gifts, the themes, and the joy it brings just to have one" Tammy clapped joyfully. Jessie nodded in agreement.
  "I can't wait to go. We'll have to go to the school stores though. You know we ain't allowed out" Amber noted. Hopefully the school had some good cloths. Eve thought in her head.
  "The real question is who will you be going with" Tom came behind them. The only thing he had in was a towel. The girls screamed at him to put some clothes on.
  "Seriously do all guys do this" Eve complained
"It's true though. There is always a king or queen of the grade. And I'm going to be king" Tom bragged with actual clothes on
"What makes you so sure" Amber disbelieved
He grinned "Who wouldn't love me? I'm manly, buff, not to mention hot, and I've got skills"
"Really" May face palmed
He started to flex his flabby muscles. CJ joined him. The girls pelted them with pillows.
"What about queen" Marco pointed out
"They should be hot, helpless, and always great full for her king" Tom responded
"Your definition of females is the most idiotic I've heard" Jada judged
"A queen should really be strong, independent, loyal, and kind" Tammy rephrased for Tom
"She also has to be funny and sweet" Marco dreamed
"Marco gets it" Eve gave him a thumbs up
"I know there is this one girl I would like to ask to go with me" he dreamed again
"Tell us" Amber scooted closer to listen
"Yeah" all the girls got closer to him
Tom looked in disbelief "why do all the girls like wusses"
"Tell us" the girls urged
He laughed shyly "I can give hints"
"Please"
"Well she's in the room"
The girls looked at each other. Then to Marco.
"Well who is it" May rushed
Marco hesitated. Then CJ walked over.
"I think it's pretty obvious it's you May"
Everyone went silent. Both Marco and May where blushing. It looked like two tomatoes stood in the room.
"Will.......you......go....to........you.....go......to.....with...me......go" he stuttered badly
May hesitated then jumped "Yes I'll go with you" she smushed him in a hug
"Awe" the girls said in union
"Ugh. Emotions. It's killing me" Tom said disgusted

  "Shh. It's a good part" shushes Amber as they all watch a movie
  "I think it's getting late" Marco lifted up his watch. It was three forty.
  "I'm hitting the hay" yawned Tammy
  "Me too" sulked Jessie
  "Ok good night" CJ stretched and curled up on his blanket
"Uh ok" Eve laid in her sleeping bag that Amber let her borrow. She laid there wide awake. She didn't want to sleep. She knew she would encounter another dream. But soon she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
