Cal's POV

My alarm went off and I checked my phone. Only a couple messages but that reminded me of

something. I looked over at my bedside table and the cup was still there, the starbucks cup... with

David's number on it. I decided, eh why not? I put his number in and texted:

Hey David it's Cal. I don't know if you remember me but you gave me your number at Starbucks :)

What? I was feeling pretty desperate and he was cute. I hopped out of bed and started to get ready for

church. I threw on a black twisted back sweater and a flowy light pink skirt. I pulled on flats and started

on my makeup. I kept it minimal, as usual, just charcoal eyeliner and mascara. I brushed on MAC blush,

the same shade as my skirt. It made my face look tanner. I grabbed my hair and twisted it into a messy

bun and headed downstairs. My phone dinged.

Of course I remember you Cal. It's good to hear from you! I would really like to get to know you. Want to hang out sometime?

I smiled and decided not to answer, just until after church. My family rode over together and I headed to

our youth building. When I walked inside, Jack was already there, wearing a blue and white button

down and talking to this really pretty girl. No, I thought. I looked closely. Yep, it was Georgia. She was

wearing a white blouse, leggings and Tory Burch riding boots. I swallowed down a twinge of jealousy

and walked over with a forced smile. "Hey Jack," I hugged him and stood by his side, "hi Georgia, it's

good to see you. I haven't seen you since the last time you were here." We both smiled at each other

but I know we were both thinking of that one day.

*FLASHBACK*

We stood, facing each other with our arms crossed. "Okay G, what's up? Why are you so mad at me?

We are supposed to be best friends." She glared at me. "Yeah, supposed to be. I told you I liked Jack.

So Back. Off." I gaped at her. "G, I DON'T like him, I wouldn't steal somebody from you." She raised a

perfect eyebrow. "Really? Because, I'm pretty sure that's why Tommy and I broke up, because of you.

He broke up with me to be with you -" I interupted, "But I turned him down -" She interupted me, "and

now you are trying to steal Jack from me too." I looked at her, hurt that my best friend could think I would

do this to her. "Jack and I are best friends, that's it. Nothing more." Her eyes gazed coldly into mine.

"Good, make sure it stays that way. Anyway, I'm moving to California in a month. I probably won't see

you again after this but you'll see me on the big screen. Ta-ta bitc-" A door opened and she turned

quickly and walked out the door. I ran out so no one could see the tears in my eyes.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

I knew she was forcing a smile too. "I just came to visit for the weekend. I'm leaving in a couple minutes

but I wanted to say hi to my friends." I snorted in my head. "And I see that you and Jack are still closer

than ever." Her eyes were full of evil irony. I clenched my jaw and nodded. "Yep, still best friends..."

Jack was starting to see that something was wrong and looked between us. Georgia smiled and said,

"Well, I must be going but it was good to see you again Jacky!" She hugged him and walked off, leaving

me glaring at the spot she was standing. Jack crossed his arms and asked, "Do I want to know?" I

looked at him and said, "Nope, not even worth it." He nodded and pulled me into a hug. He knew not to

pester me about it but to say sorry through a hug. What a great best friend.

Jack's POV

I pulled Cal into a hug, knowing she wouldn't want me to ask her a bunch of questions about what

happened between her and Georgia. Her phone dinged and she checked it. I saw the name, David,

and it rung a bell. Wait a minute... wasn't that the guy at - are you serious? Come on, she doesn't even

know the guy. I watched as she texted him back, smiling. She put her phone away and I couldn't stand

it. "What was that about?" She grinned at me. "You know that cute Starbucks guy? He wants to hang out

later today and go get something to eat." I looked at her with concern. "Cal, he's in college and you're

17. Are you sure about this?" She smiled. "Jack, I can make my own decisions, but thank you for

looking out for me." She made sure to turn her phone off and we headed in the room for Sunday school.

After church, Cal turned on her phone as we were sitting on the porch of the youth building. She had

gotten another message. "Oh, he says he's going to come pick me up here." I bit my lip. Why couldn't

she see that I wanted to be with her? I know, I know, I should tell her how I feel but you have no idea of

how complicated things would get. A car drove in and David stepped out. I hate to admit it, but he was

one good looking dude. She got up and smiled at him. She waved goodbye to me and started to talk to

him. I know what you're probably thinking. Isn't it dangerous to be getting in the car with someone that is

older and you don't know? Well, it's not like that here. The people here all live here, no tourists come

by, which means he probably goes to the local college. Which means he's probably not a serial killer.

Probably. She got in his car and I watched angrily as they drove off. I got in my car and drove home.
