Chapter 22: Burning hearts

Amber's POV
" The Blood Queen." I wake up from a dreamless sleep. Another strong wave of heat comes over me and I can't help screaming loudly. I know everybody's after me, trying to understand why I'm feeling so bad, but I can't find the strength to talk to them. I'm exhausted.

" She must have woken up... I feel her presence in the mind link." It's Jake's voice who speaks. So he's here too.

" Amber, love, can you hear me?" Alexander asks, while I feel his warm body coming closer to me and touching my shield. It's getting weak, I know I can't hold it anymore. But I must. The Moon Goddess said I must've kept strong, and that's what I will do.

" Amber, Amber, please, let me know you can hear me." Alexander's pleading voice takes me out from my thoughts back to reality. I manage to nod a little before screaming again in agony. I know it isn't really queenly to scream for a little heat, but it's to painful to hold it inside me.

" Amber, why are you doing this to you!? Why?" Alexander's voice sounds hurt and weak this time, as if he was suffering with me. I wish I could tell him what I'm doing and why I'm doing it, but I don't have the strength to talk. All I can do is screaming.

" Stop it...!" My wolf pleads whining.

" I-I can't..." I tell her. At least I can mind link. Wait, I can mind link!

" Jake! Jake! Here!" I use my Alpha tone to mind link him and make him focus on me.

" A-Amber!?!?" He says in the connection but whispers too, the way everyone stop talking.

" Alexander! She's mind-linking me!" He shouts and I hear someone rushing towards Jake's voice (probably Alexander) and ask,

" What!? Really!?" Yeah it's definitely Alex.

" Yes! She's not sleeping..." Jake answers relieved.

" Ask her what's hurting... Just to be sure it's the heat..." This time it's Celia the clever speaker. Very clever girl.

" Amber, did you hear Celia's question?" Jake asks through mind link.

" Yes I can hear you, but I haven't enough strength to speak." I tell him.

" Okay guys then... She says she can hear all of us, but she hasn't enough strength to speak." I hear him telling everybody what I've just said.

" Really? So she's hearing me now!?" Alexander asks him with a hopeful tone.

" Yes! You can tell her whatever you want." Jake reassures him and I can feel the smile on his mouth. Then, I feel Alex's presence leaning closer to me and whispering to my ear,

" I love you, Amber. Come back to me." I try to smile a little bit, just to make sure he knows I'm listening to him. I want to kiss him so bad. A new wave of heat comes and I shamefully scream again.

" What's wrong with her?!?" Alexander's Alpha worried voice yells towards someone.

" She's thinking of you." A female voice I don't recognise says.

" Who's this woman?" I ask Jake.

" Oh.. She's just... How can I explain... A-a professor. She knows everything about what you're going through." He replies. Really? Maybe I can... Maybe she could...
