So while I was writing Toxic, when I reached around 750 reads, I decided to try out a couple of book clubs.

For those of you who are unaware of what book clubs on Wattpad are, they're basically where writers sign up and get assigned each others' books to read. Most book clubs come with requirements, so when you read your assigned people's books you've to give some feedback and all of that jazz. Some of them also have stuff like tea parties and tbh I'm still not exactly sure what they are exactly even though I've joined some :"D

(Forgive me, I'm writing this rant on my computer so putting emojis is an issue rn)

Needless to say, I encountered a couple of problems.

First of all, why the hell do some of them have so many requirements to join in???

I mean it took me ages just to find a decent book club with as few requirements as possible. Like, you look at the cover and you think it's super chilled but when you open the first chapter BAM the admins have written like 217 rules that you're supposedly supposed to follow and even fucking remember and then some of them test you at the end so you know you read them?

It's like what? Am I back in high school or something? I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS

Like I mean the rules be like:

- You MUST read their books and comment at least 1000 words on each chapter otherwise STRIKE ONE

- You MUST read seven chapters in a week for all the ten books you've been assigned OTHERWISE YOU'RE OUT

- You must answer the 10 questions about your partner's books that I pose at the end of every chapter in this book and your answers for each question must be AT LEAST 15+ lines.

LIKE HONESTLY

I don't understand why they have to be so demanding? And tbh I'm not the type of person to read rules, it's just a lot of work tbh

My main issue with the book clubs was the fact that at the end of the day, it doesn't help as much as you'd want it to. A lot of the decent book clubs I joined were ones that you get a new partner each week and not a permanent one, and so I consistently got feedback on the SAME THREE CHAPTERS EVERY DAMN TIME SO I WAS LIKE *insert emoji of girl questioning wtf*

Like what's the damn point?

Anywho lol it does feel nice to be a part of something I guess but from what I've experienced so far, it's super difficult to establish a proper proper book club that works for everybody.

I had a joke in mind for real but now I've forgotten dammit

Don't get me started on those tea parties! What the hell! Like how are they even parties? You just have to comment a lot of bullshit and hope that the admins like your answer?! Like ewwww nooo

And it's just a complete hassle having to keep up with the deadlines and all of that shit. I liked the book clubs which are like "Yea bruh, we know you have a lot of shit to do, so we'll give you three weeks to read one chapter. No worries!" But there are so many other unreasonable ones.

OH LAWWWD AND THE BOOK CLUBS THAT STATE OPEN! in bold on the title then when you submit your form they're like "Sorry but we're closed!! Maybe next time!" AND IT'S LIKE WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MAKE ME WRITE AN ENTIRE FUCKING FORM IF YOU WERE GONNA TELL ME NO LIKE UGH GO FUCK YOURSELF

Hold up.

How many of you have ever tried to join or have been part of a book club?

Or is this just one of those awkward rants that you can't really relate to but will just vote anyway (hint hint)
