"Has she always been like this?" Porpentina Goldstein murmured to her friend Newt Scamander as they stood in Newt's magical suitcase.

"Blind, you mean?" Newt muttered back, keeping his eyes trained on the floor.

"Yeah," Tina sighed.

"No. She was 12 when it happened. She was always scared, but never..." He sucked in a breath. "Not like this."

"I'd be scared too if I went blind. How did it happen? If you don't mind me asking."

"Grindelwald and his fanatics," Newt hung his head. "Her parents were involved in the government. She just got caught in the middle." It'd been years since he'd seen his best friend and his first love. It was a dull agony to see her again, with the scars on her face and the clouds in her pupils. She was gray now, more than she'd been before, and he couldn't help but feel that it was his fault.

Tina's face fell. She turned her head to look at the shape hunched over on a rock next to the niffler enclosure. The girl's dull eyes searched the black, darting in a hopeless search. Tina shivered at the sight.

"And... you two were friends?"

"I loved her. I still love her." Newt stated apathetically, keeping his eyes away from the form on the rock.

Tina didn't say anything. She could feel the gaping hole between the two, the resentment and regret that boiled between them. It was a pity, she thought. It was sad and it was a pity.

"I think you should talk to her." Tina said softly.

"I can't." He said softly, his face breaking into the first sign of emotion- remorse.

You crouched on a rock, your heart beating wildly. The accidental apparation into Newt's case was a surprise, to say the least. You didn't mean to be there nor did you want to be there. All you knew is that you hadn't seen Newt in years, not after he was expelled. Not after he left you to the mercy of the students who resented you, resented your blindness, resented your parents or your loneliness or whatever it was that made them treat you the way they did. It wasn't his fault, you knew, but you couldn't help but feel like it was.

"(Y/N)?" A voice asked.

"Oh Jesus!" You cried with a start.

"It's me, Newt." He said softly.

"Don't do that!" You cried, your eyes darting around for any sign of your former friend, although you knew it was in vain. You'd been blind for years. "You know better than to sneak up on me!"
