Alison POV

"Family Portrait"

Uh, uh, some deep shit, uh, uh

Momma please stop cryin, I can't stand the sound
Your pain is painful and its tearin' me down
I hear glasses breakin as I sit up in my bed
I told dad you didn't mean those nasty things you
said

You fight about money, bout me and my brother
And this I come home to, this is my shelter
It ain't easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, you'll see
I don't want love to destroy me like it has done
my family

Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't
leave

Daddy please stop yellin, I can't stand the sound

Make mama stop cryin, cuz I need you around
My mama she loves you, no matter what she says
its true
I know that she hurts you, but remember I love
you, too

I ran away today, ran from the noise, ran away
Don't wanna go back to that place, but don't have
no choice, no way
It ain't easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, well I've seen
I don't want love to destroy me like it did my
family

Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't
leave

In our family portrait, we look pretty happy
Let's play pretend, let's act like it comes
naturally
I don't wanna have to split the holidays
I don't want two addresses
I don't want a step-brother anyways
And I don't want my mom to have to change her
last name

In our family portrait we look pretty happy
We look pretty normal, let's go back to that
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
Let's play pretend, act like it goes naturally

In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
We look pretty normal, let's go back to that
(I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do
anything)
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
Let's play pretend act and like it comes so
naturally
(I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't
leave)
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
We look pretty normal, let's go back to that
(I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't
leave)

Daddy don't leave
Daddy don't leave
Daddy don't leave
Turn around please
Remember that the night you left you took my
shining star?
Daddy don't leave
Daddy don't leave
Daddy don't leave
Don't leave us here alone

Mom will be nicer
I'll be so much better, I'll tell my brother
Oh, I won't spill the milk at dinner
I'll be so much better, I'll do everything right
I'll be your little girl forever
I'll go to sleep at night

I look at the poem I wrote as a child and tears welled in my eyes.

Mom cried for four days because she didn't know I felt that way.

My Dad cried one of the few times he did and hugged like his life depended on it.

''Ali what you doing''Spencer asked.

''This was my song for my mom and real dad''

''Sweetie Let me hear it''My step dad said and I nod.I ask Noel to play the beat on the sheet and I sang to them with the portable mic I had.

Everyone looked at me speechless.

''I wrote it when I was 9''

''Sing a next song for us''Hanna said tears falling out of her eyes.

"Leave Me Lonely"
(feat. Macy Gray)

[Intro - Macy Gray:]
Dangerous love
You're no good for me, darling
Yeah, you turn me away
Like I'm begging for a dollar
Danger, oh, how you hold me
I get a chill inside
And nothing frightens me, baby
Oh

[Verse 1 - Ali:]
Is it love when so easily said goodbye?
Is it love when we've given up before we tried?
Is it love when you stole my peace of mind?
Is it love when you cry, and cry, and cry?

[Pre-chorus - Ali:]
So when you walk out that door
Don't you come back no more
My heart has had enough of the give and take
And as much as I want you to stay

[Chorus]
You're a dangerous love
Baby, you're no good for me, darling
'Cause if you're gonna love me and leave me hanging here
Then I'd rather you leave me lonely
Even though it hurts
You're a dangerous love

[Bridge - Macy Gray:]
Dangerous love
You're no good for me, darling
Yeah, you turn me away
Like I'm begging for a dollar
Danger, oh, how you hold me
I get a chill inside
And nothing frightens me, baby
Oh

[Pre-chorus - Ali:]
When you walk out that door
Don't you come back no more
My heart has had enough of the give and take
And as much as I want you to stay

[Chorus - Ali:]
You're a dangerous love
Baby, you're no good for me, darling
'Cause if you're gonna love me and leave me hanging here
Then I'd rather you leave, leave me lonely
Even though it hurts
Mm
You're a dangerous love, baby

[Bridge - Macy Gray:]
Dangerous love
You're no good for me, darling
Yeah, you turn me away
Like I'm begging for a dollar
Danger, oh, how you hold me
I get a chill inside
And nothing frightens me, baby
Oh

''I wrote this a few days ago Macy Gray and I met and I asked if she'll do a song with me and she said sure''

I play her prerecording and sang the rest.

''Ali you're a really good singer I wish I was like you''Hanna said.

''Always the admirer''I say.Jason sits next to me and says

''When our Dad skipped out of our lives my sister became my mom. Not because we didn't have Mom anymore, but because she spent every waking hour earning enough money to pay the mortgage and buy groceries. Sometimes I think back to how I used to whine for everything  other kids had, I'd like to scrub those memories from my brain, but I was a kid and that's what kids do. If Ali hadn't started cooking and doing laundry I don't know what would have happened; I've heard about foster homes and to be honest they sound more like cattle holding pens with just as much love. Ali walked me to school, helped me learn spellings and told me to go to bed at eight thirty. Sometimes she shouted so much like Mom it was like they were the same person, but Ali was just thirteen.I was the bigger one I was supposed to take care of her but when Dad left I didn't have the strength to take care of her and she understood. I felt like a child again and she was there and made me understand that we were in it together and she encouraged me to do good in school and help out.She made me the man I am today and I'm thankful''He hugged me and continued ''I was upset that we had to grow up without the things we wanted so I started bullying her after a while and I regret it so much cause even though I did that she'll still make sure I was okay and feed me.So I'm sorry and I hope you can forgive me''

''I did a long time ago''
