Harry had declined the Malfoy boys handshake making your family look pretty arrogant yourselves. Harry was your twin brother and you were stood in the Great Hall, about to be sorted into your houses. You thought it was rather rude of Harry to dismiss Malfoy so quickly. He didn't seem that bad.
The first years stood quietly as they begun to be sorted into different houses; Weasley, Gryffindor; Goyle, Slytherin; Longbottom, Gryffindor; Abbot, Hufflepuff and Malfoy, Slytherin.

It was finally Harry's turn. He turned to you as you gave him a shy smile. He returned it and walked over to the hat. He was soon sorted into Gryffindor to sit alongside his new found friend Ron Weasley.
Soon it was your go. Stepping slowly up the few small steps to the chair, the hat was placed on your head as it shouted the name you secretly were dying for it to say. "SLYTHERIN!" You smiled widely as the long green table cheered.
Looking back over to Harry, he looked disappointed but also angry. This annoyed you slightly because you wanted him to be happy for you. Instead, he wasn't.

Sitting at the end of the Slytherins table, Draco Malfoy gave you a weary look from across the table. It was as though he wasn't sure how much like your brother you were. Could he trust you? Were you going to reject him as well? But you were the opposite to your brother. You looked over at the platinum haired boy and gave him a weak smile, encouraging him to start a convocation with you.
"Potter, isn't it?" He asked, his voice full of authority.
You nod. "Yeah. Your Malfoy right? Draco Malfoy?"
He confirmed what you already knew and continued talking to you for the rest of the evening.

As the days went by, you get closer to Draco and grew distant from Harry. He didn't seem to care though. When you had Potions with Gryffindor and there was a space next to Harry, you sat on the seat as he turned away from you. He attempted to speak to you as little as possible whenever he was around you and ignored you on a daily basis.
This got Draco's attention. Where Harry used to be the person you went to when you were down, hurt, excited or just needed to talk, Draco replaced him in this role as he was always willing to talk to you and vice versa.
He held you when you cried, he made you giggle when you were blue, he shared you excitement in pointless things and most importantly, he trusted you.

It was a freezing January morning. The type that makes you act like a child. If it's breathing out heavily so your breath makes you look like a dragon. Or complaining profusely at how bloody cold it is. 10 points to the person who guesses which one you were and which one your best friend was.
Yes, Draco complained non-stop where as you walked down the corridor beside him, breathing out into the cold air to look like a dragon. It took every ounce of strength within Draco not to insult your childish behaviour. But really he found it endearing.

As you approached your Potions class room you bumped into someone accidentally. "I'm so sorry." The girls spoke frantic and timidly.
"You should watch where you're going." Draco spat, his supreme Slytherin attitude poring out.
You looked over at the girl you knocked into and realised it was Gryffindors own, Hermione Granger.
Before you could apologise to the intelligent muggle-born, Harry had marched over and began shouting vigorously at how irresponsible you were being. "You need to be more aware (Y/N). And don't get me started on him. I mean, come on (Y/N). Malfoy? Really?" He continued, pointing at the Pureblood beside you.
The boy scowled menacingly at your brother. "It's Malfoy. Maybe everyone was right. I tried to stick up for you but maybe you are a Slytherin traitor." He commented.
A look of utter disgust washed over your face as you looked at the-boy-who-lived.
"Don't talk about my best friend like that Potter. Just because you're a stuck up Gryffindor, doesn't mean she has to be one to." He stared your brother down harshly as you tried standing in between the two boys before someone tried a spell they would regret.

You gave up when they began shouting over and around your head. At that point you rolled your eyes at the immature boys and walked away with an awkward Hermione in tow.
"Hey. Sorry to tag along like this. It's just I didn't want to listen to their argument just as much as you didn't." She started. "I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to bump into you." She apologised.
Honestly, you weren't really listening but apologised politely back to her. "Yeah. I'm sorry to. I guess we just both weren't looking where we were going." You admitted, not really caring and wanting to sit alone.
You found a small ledge next to the window where no one was sat and placed your stuff on the floor. "Are you not going to your lesson?" Granger asked, slightly stunned at your nonchalant approach to learning.
You shrugged. "I'll go in a minute." You simply state, hoping your conversation with her was over.
"Well I'll be off. I don't want to be late. And also Draco's coming." She warned, clutching her books tightly to her chest and walking away.

"I'm sorry." Draco said shyly.
You didn't look at him but rather just gazed out of the window at the small flakes of snow that had started to cover the roofs is blankets of white dust.
"It's fine. I know you were just trying to help but he already hates Slytherins. No one is going to change that. Not even me." You told him, finally looking round at the ashamed looking boy.
He nodded. "I'm always going to be here. Even when that boy you call your brother isn't. You're my best friend Potter." Draco told you, perching next to you.
You smiled at the small boy next to you. "Thanks Draco. You are truly the best." You told him.
"I think we should probably go to Potions or Snape might make us drink one of them." He suggested, taking your hand and helping you up.
"You sound like Granger. She gave me a lecture about school the other day." You joked. "I thought she was going to take points away when I told her to leave me alone." You laughed as Draco giggled to, walking down the corridors to Snape's classroom.
