Yes, this is short. But what is the point of describing the same reaction for seven times, trying to use different words to make it look slightly different. In general, if the boys' siblings got a rare disease, they're going to be sad and worried. They would try to comfort the sibling meanwhile telling themselves that everything is going to be fine.
