"Must be a real punch to the gut to be the second strongest vampire in the world. Second to your ex boytoy as well. Twice the sting"

"Oh god, Elijah." I mutter in annoyance speeding and pulling the huge coat hanger out of Elijah's chest, what happened to end with an original staked with a coat hanger?
He gasps awake and I help him up to his feet. "what happened?" I ask him worriedly and he quickly regains his consistently calm composure.
"The Salvatore brothers. They seem quite hellbent on keeping the doppelgänger in their possession." he says and I nod, connecting the dots in my mind.
I'd heard about them from Katarina. Poor Damon. I do pity most men who come in contact with Katarina. I don't feel particularly sorry about Stefan since when I met him in the 20s he seemed perfectly fine. That Damon boy was a mess when I heard about him passing through... though. I also heard he was an asshole, so maybe it was deserved.
"We need to find the doppelgänger... but the Salvatore brothers could be useful. They would die for the doppelgänger." he says and I nod. I don't know what it is about doppelgängers and their bodyguard boys. But to our advantage, they inspire men who would do anything for love... especially young stubborn vampires.
"Good idea"
They could be useful to distract Klaus. If they could take on Elijah then they must be smart, tactical or just lucky... so that will be helpful. Elijah opens the door to the car and I jump in.
At the apartment
"One of the Salvatore brothers is looking for a way to destroy the curse." Elijah says and I jump up from the couch. "Isn't that a plus... as long as Klaus thinks breaking the curse is an option he will come? Or even if he figures it out he'll want to punish those responsible" I ask speeding to the front door.
"We need Klaus to break the curse to kill him."Elijah informs me and my eyes widen.
"Shit- really?... What about the werewolf and a vampire? I know we could use any vampire but have you seen any werewolves recently?" I say starting to stress slightly.
I normally would have never consider hurting Klaus or any of the originals but when Klaus threw their coffins into the ocean that crossed a line that I didn't even think he passed when he tried to kill me.
Taking a deep breath I close my eyes, calming myself down a little before I continue.
"I'm sorry it's just. Once he breaks the curse he will just be stronger if we fail. Is it worth the risk?" I ask, trying to cover my weakness fruitlessly.
"If a witch can harness enough power they might be able to kill him as he transforms into a werewolf for the first time... but it is likely the witch would die in the process..." he says and I sigh following him out the door. There is no way no one will die during this. I always knew death was a risk or in my case Klaus desiccating me and then hiding me in a coffin.
"So where would we find a location or item that could harness enough power to channel." I ask and Elijah sighs.
"That's the problem"
Klaus never forgave people who disappointed him and by telling Katarina what would happen in the ritual I risked my life and it didn't end well when Katarina took matters into her own hands.
Flashback
"Katarina... I must tell you something." I tell her worriedly and she nods. "Of course, you may tell me anything." she responds and I sigh. One of the things I liked about Katarina was that she wasn't just an innocent girl. She did not know of the supernatural and yet she was quite intelligent.
"You know of the rumours of vampires in the area do you not?" I start looking her in the eye and she nods, smiling brightly. "They are true." I say and she bursts into giggles but I do not laugh.
"You cannot be serious? You believe such stories?" She asks me and I smile "I do, it is easy to believe something when you are one." I say and she looks at me confused.
"Katarina I believe that we have become good friends and this is why I am entrusting you to not tell anyone of this." I tell her and she looks at me suspiciously "prove it." she says with ambition and I hold her hand and close my eyes opening them to reveal red eyes with veins curling out beneath.
She gasps and jumps back and I revert my face to normal. "Katarina I would not hurt you for no reason, I promise." I tell her and she nods nervously.
"If this is too much for you to handle I can make you forget and you will never know of vampire's existence until... tomorrow." I say taking a deep breath "what happens tomorrow?" She asks curiously but still nervously.
"The sacrifice and then you will become a vampire. Katarina, dear. Niklaus and I are not just vampires Klaus is a born werewolf and I am a born witch. When we break the curse by. Killing. The doppelgänger, you, we will be true hybrids " I say trying to explain the concept of it to her quickly.
"I'm a doppelgänger? Why do I have to die?" She asks to search for answers that I barely have. Or at least not ones that I could explain without revealing too much about the original family.
"you will not die. Not permanently anyway. You will come back as a vampire if you drink my blood or you can not drink it and when the ritual commences you will die human and not come back. As to why you are a doppelgänger... A long time ago your ancestor Tatia's blood was used to make the curse to block our hybrid side of us and so your blood will break it" I explain to her and she seems to be deep In thought.
"I don't want to die"
The next day
"Katarina has escaped." Elijah says annoyed after hours of searching she is still missing. "Trevor must have had something to do with it" I assure him but he brushes me off.
"Trevor is loyal he would not betray us, he is the one that brought her here in the first place" he argues with me but I shake my head.
"Would you have done it for Tatia?... You are too trusting Elijah. I've seen the way Trevor looks at her... just ask him about it, compel him if you must but I assure you he is in love..." I say and Elijah pauses, uncertainty littering his every breath.
"Five hundred years ago I asked you what love was... you said you would do anything for someone you loved.... and I told you love blinds people from their loyalties. I'm quite certain that is what is in play now" I say walking out and before I do I hear Elijah call out.
"And what of you and Niklaus, then?" he asks and I turn around, facing him with a tensed expression.
"I am not blind Elijah. Let me be perfectly clear when I say I know he would not give up his strength or power for me. His love doesn't force his hand so neither shall mine. I wish it weren't true but... if you disagree and are so sure that love is such a true and incorruptible thing please do speak your mind." I tell Elijah and he stays silent, unsure of an answer.
and that's the last thing Elijah and I spoke of before Katherine and I went on the run.
End of flashback
"Well then I guess we need a witch that can harness that much power, then we can worry about where we can get the power from." I say before jumping in the car.
This is going to be more difficult than I expected... "I'm going to the Salvatores they might know something we don't." I say and Elijah nods as I walk out and to the Salvatore boarding house. And I listen in to the conversation little Rosie and the doppelgänger are having...
