Chapter 21

"One second." I said to Edward as I get off my chair and ran fast to the bathroom. I closed it then locked the door.

Don't faint. Don't faint. Not now, Marydale. Inhale, Exhale. OH MY GOD!!!

I dialled Pat's number immediately. As the phone continued to ring, I walked back and forth inside the bathroom nervously.

"C'mon, Pat answer your phone. Please, answer your phone." I talked to myself as I bit my nails. Nasty habit. I knew.

After a few seconds but felt like an hour, she answered.

"Marydale, alam mo ba kung anong oras na dito? Ilang araw ng..." 

Finally!  "Pat, he proposed!"

"What?!" She shrieked her question.

"I know. He asked me to marry him." 

She screamed. I had to pull the phone away from my ear for a few seconds.

"Video call, Marydale." She said after she stopped screaming. We switched to video call.

"Oh, okay ka na? Baka may pulis na dumating diyan akala ng kapit-bahay mo napano ka."

"Loka-loka. Asan na? Can I see it?"

"Ang alin?"

"The ring! Ano pa ba?!"

"Ummm..."

"Don't tell me nagpropose siya walang singsing?"

"Do you want the truth or..."

"Of course, the truth! Start from the beginning."

"After naming mag..."

"Huy, fast forward. Hulsam tayo, eh. Teka, wag mong sabihing...Marydale!"

"Ah...eh..."

"My gosh, Marydale! Andami mo ng utang sakin na kwento. By the way, congratulations!" She laughed like a lunatic.

"Baliw!"

"So..."

"Nope. Hindi ko ikukwento yun. Off limits! Di ako kiss and tell, no!"

"Okay, fine. Yung proposal na lang."

"So, after nga naming..."

"Hulsam, Marydale! Hulsam! Baka hindi kayanin ng puso ko."

"Patapusin mo kasi ako. Itutuloy ko ba o hindi?"

"Okay, go."

"So after nga naming mag-breakfast...Oh, exhale ka na diyan. Madumi talaga utak mo, Bes...Nasa terrace kami at nag-uusap kung ano itinerary namin for tomorrow."

"Wait. Don't tell me hanggang ngayon di nyo pa nalilibot ang Paris. Marydale! You left Germany two days ago. What did you do in the last 48 hours?"

"Uhm..."

"Nevermind. Don't answer that. Continue with the proposal."

"Basta he went down on his knees tapos yun, he proposed!"

"What the..."

"I had the same reaction."

"And then, what happened?"

"I ran."

"Jusko, Marydale! Why?"

"Why what?"

"Bakit ka tumakbo?"

"Tatawagan kita? I don't know. I panicked! What should I say?"

"Anong what should I say?! You don't know? Marydale! Kung pwede lang kita sabunutan thru video call ginawa ko na eh. Bakit hindi mo alam?"

"Well...na-shock ako? It's too soon?...I don't know, Pat! Anong gagawin ko?"

"Ganito. Take a deep breath. Then, think. If you picture yourself five years from now, what do you see? Ten years from now? If wala si Edward dun, don't accept his proposal. Or ask yourself if you love him."

"Agad-agad? Pero Pat..."

"Wala ng pero pero, Marydale. Pag-isipan mong mabuti. Wag kang lalabas ng bathroom hanggang hindi mo naiisip."

"Pat naman, eh. Pat?...Pat!" She ended the video call.

Okay, I'll do what you said, Pat. Hopefully hindi ako abutin ng isang araw dito.
