AUGUST P.O.V. –
“Are you niggas really in here eating without us?” Me and Amber walked in to see the caterers Tanya hired had already given everybody their salad.
“Maybe if you weren’t trying to scar my kids for life, you would be eating too.” Cha gave me the evil eye.
“Noonie was seeing things.” I pulled out Amb’s chair so she could sit then sat next to her. “I was just helping Amber put on her shoes.”
“Under her dress?” She gave me a skeptical look.
“It was a big dress, how else was I supposed to do it?”
“Just keep your little freaky escapades in the privacy of your bedroom.”
“Can we change the subject please? Babe hand me the ranch dress.” I said pointing to the ranch dressing in front of Amb.
She did. As I poured my dressing I looked over at Stacy who was looking kind of sad. I suppose she was hurt seeing Tanya and Durrell having a conversation and laughing at each-other.
I cleared my throat to get her attention.
“What?” She gave me a stank face then picked at her salad.
“You aight Stac?” Amber asked her.
“Yeah, girl I’m fine. Just a little tired.” She gave a faint smile.
“I really appreciate this Stac. I know Aug couldn’t have done it without you.”
“Pssh. Please. I don’t need nobody help. I did all this by myself.” I said eating some salad.
“Right.” Amber rolled her eyes.
“You’re very welcome Amb.” Stac rolled her eyes at me.
“Girls you look so pretty in your dresses.” Amber looked at the girls on the other side of the table.
“Thank you.” They replied in unison.
“Uncle Aug can we do it now?” Chay asked.
“Yeah.” I took a sip of my water.
All three of the girls got up and went inside a bag and pulled out the necessary items. They all came over to Amb.
“Auntie Amb hold out your arm.” Kay said.
Amber did and Kay put a white rose corsage on her right arm.
“Aww.” Amb kissed and hugged Kay.
Noonie handed Amb a silver princess wand. Amb hugged and kissed her.
And Chay put a tiara on her head. Amb hugged and kissed her.
“We picked it out.” Noonie said with her index finger in her mouth.
“Thank you loves. I will always cherish this.”
They went to sit back down.
“You really have some beautiful daughters.” Mama Riley told Cha.
“Thank you. But don’t let their pretty faces fool you. They are a handful.”
“Chile, I already know. Didn’t nobody give me a hard of time as much as Amber. Jesus, I’m so glad she grown.”
“Mama.” Amber gave her mother a straight face.
“What? I’m just being honest.” Her mother took a bite of her salad.
