By the time they were asleep it had already started.
It spread, starting from the kitchen, throughout the house. Sparks of red, orange and gold flew onto the persian carpet, setting fire to its edges.
Slowly but surely the fire burned brighter and crept up the stairs, smoke rising and replacing the sweet smell of freshly baked cake and home with poisonous stenches.
The fire burned and set fire to the children's bedroom.
And that's when they woke.
