I was asleep when I was awoken by the sound of a gunshot.

I groaned and figured I must've been dreaming. I then heard a howl and I shot up.

I quickly grabbed my jacket and my tennis shoes and ran. Either Scott or Derek was in trouble.

I quickly ran to a warehouse and used my senses.

I smelled the familiar scent with a hint of cinnamon.

Derek.

I found him laying on the ground and groaning.

I quickly listened and approached him.

"Derek?" I whispered.

I bent down and he sat up and looked at his arm, which had been shot.

"I'm fine, I'll heal," he breathed.

"What are you doing this time of night?!" I hissed. "You were looking for the Alpha weren't you? At two in the morning?! Don't you ever rest?" I asked.

"If he doesn't sleep, neither do I - not as long as he's out there."

I sighed and started to walked with him.

"What are you doing up anyways?" He asked.

"The gunshot woke me up, then I heard you howl. How did the Hunters even know you were there?"

"I don't know."

I walked with him till we reached his house.

"Do you have bandages?" I asked.

"Bathroom."

I nodded and headed to the bathroom. This place really needed work, such a shame, I'm sure it was a beautiful house.

I found he had a first aid kit in a bag and I grabbed it.

I walked back to him as he sat on his makeshift bed.
I bent down and lifted his sleeve and started cleaning.

"You should be more careful," I said, looking up at him through my lashes.

"I'll heal."

"Still. I don't want to have to patch you up every time."

He raised his eyebrows at me and I focused on wrapping his wound.

"There," I whispered, finishing.

"Thank you," he answered.

"Anytime," I smiled and realizing how close we were, just us in the moonlight.

I got up and ran my hand through my hair, I probably looked terrible. "I uh, better get going and sleep. Same goes for you."

"Good night."

"Night," I replied, heading out and taking a deep breath.

Nope not today, I would not think about Derek and how close we were and what it might be like to have kissed him.

I wouldn't be infatuated. I wouldn't allow myself.

I collapsed on my bed and groaned.
~
I woke up, wondering if last night had been a dream.

However my jacket still on me proved me otherwise.

I showered and got dressed for the day.

I headed to Derek's after stopping for coffee and doughnuts. I sometimes worried he forgot to take care of himself while he was worried about everything else. Another part of me thought he was a lot smarter then that and wouldn't allow himself to burn out.

But just to be safe.

I walked into his house and placed the bag of doughnuts and the coffee on a little table.

"Derek?" I asked, wondering where he was.

When I got no reply I looked around.   I found him still asleep.

"Derek?" I asked and he opened his eyes and groaned.

I bent down quickly and placed a hand on his forehead gently.

"You're burning up," I said.

I looked at his bandage which was soaked with black blood.

I don't know how I remained calm.

"You're not healing."

"I can see that. We need to find Scott."

"He'd be at school."

Derek got up quickly and almost lost his balance. I wrapped my arm around his waist.

"Wait, I'm going to change your bandage, you're still bleeding and we can't have you bleeding out before we even find him.

I quickly worked, surprised my hands didn't shake.
I helped him get his jacket on and I grabbed his keys and we drove to the high school.

This was not how I imagined driving his car for the first time.
