Lights Out

Doc growled and kicked the carpet of the stock exchange. He'd been cooped up inside for three days now, and the rain had barely stopped. Ren was in Hermitville, so he couldn't come visit, and Doc couldn't very well leave the stock exchange, what with his cybernetics and all. He'd be sure to short-circuit.

And then the lights went out. An eerie silence took over the stock exchange as every Redstone clock in the building stopped ticking, and everything seemed to freeze. Doc reached into the drawers of the filing cabinet, pulling out a flashlight he kept in case of such an emergency. He tried to turn it on. It had no battery.

Doc groaned, and shoved his way out of the office. He wandered down the stairs and pushed the button to activate the door to downstairs, before realising it was an iron door, and he was stuck. He muttered some choice words in German under his breath, something unheard of before now. He'd need to find another way down.

Eventually, after quite some pacing, he decided that the only way down was to clamber over the railings and jump. He didn't have a rope on him, so that wasn't an option. He'd have to free-fall. Bracing himself for the impact, he clambered over the railing, and promptly lost his footing. He fell a drop of several meters.

And then he hit the ground. He heard a terrible crunching sound, and his entire body was wracked with pain. He lay there, his only movement being the pained rising and falling of his chest, for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually the pain ebbed away enough that he was able to push himself up a little.

He immediately regretted it. The exertion caused another wave of pain, and he fell back down, coughing... oh that was blood. He lay there some more, not wanting to risk it again. And then the lights came back on their own. Of course they did. Doc thought he should probably get some sleep, so he just drifted off there.

Time Skip brought to you by British weather.

He woke up some hours later to another power outage. He forced himself to crawl another meter or so towards the Redstone, before realising that it was his arm that hurt, and not much else. He used his other arm to push himself up, and staggered towards the area where the Redstone was kept. He needed to fix it...

Doc was scanning a piece of Redstone wiring when he heard a crash. Startled, he put his mechanical hand down on dodgy wires, which you should never do. Never. He only had time to realise his mistake before a ridiculous amount of electricity used him as a conduit, and he fell to the floor, very unconscious.

Time Skip, thanks to our sponsor, the stupid power outages.

Doc woke up to his ears ringing, but it was soon drowned out by Ren's voice:

"... I don't know what I would do... what any of us would do... if you left. Please, wake up."

Someone squeezed his hand, and he could hear Ren crying. And then Doc came to the sudden realisation that everything hurt. He groaned and rolled over to get off his sore arm, and slowly opened one eye.

"Oh. You're awake."

"Mmm... sorta."

"I should tell everyone."

"Yeah."

And then, only then, did the last passive-aggressive dregs of rain clear up.

I have no idea what this is. I think I was angry at the rain or something. Don't ask, we've had a stupid amount of power failures and rain in the past few days.
