- Clementine's POV

I raised my arms up in defence, but it was no use. Every hit felt warm and numb, my arms were no defence anymore. Lilly continued beating me down, kicking and punching with no end. Like she had no concept of what would kill me. "You got them all killed!" She yelled, her voice echoing in my ears. I tried to block her punches as they came, but...I couldn't see. My vision was blurry and...weird. They kept hitting my face, over and over again until I barely felt anything. Except for the realization of the hit. I fell from dizziness, landing on the hard ground and hitting my head on the boat's flooring. Then she started kicking. I could barely see the blood from my mouth when it dripped onto the floor, but I tasted it. And I knew there was a lot more than there should've been. I struggled to breathe, curling into a ball and trying not to vomit from the beating. At last the edges of my vision went black, and little shapes appeared before my eyes. The last thing I felt was another kick, before my body and mind abandoned me.

When I woke up I swore every muscle in my body ached. Mostly because of the movement I felt beside me, almost like breathing. My eyes hurt like hell, it was too painful to try and open them. Instead I shifted, instantly regretting it from the pain shooting up from, well...everywhere. I groaned, trying to sit up as I normally would in that situation. "Shh, Clem. It's okay." I heard. At first it was hard to hear but I knew his voice from anywhere. I relaxed a little as I realized the breathing was him, holding me. Louis' hand stroked through my hair, caressing my face as a way to ease the nerves. It was bright. Really, really bright. But I pushed through it, forcing my eyes open as my head spun like crazy. I clutched onto the boy's hand a little harder, noticing as he held back. "It's okay." I saw his mouth move. But would it really be okay?

"You." I heard the voice from behind. It was horrifying. Cold and empty, it sent shivers through me. Louis seemed to freeze up too, turning to see Lilly standing behind him. He stood quickly, fists now balled as he faced her. "You...you did this to her!" He yelled, only enraged further by her smirk. "Yes. I did." The woman lunged forward, starting their fight as I could only watch in horror. Honestly Louis was a better fighter than I thought he'd be, but...not good enough. I could see that he was losing the fight. I needed to stop it. With all my strength I stood, somehow managing to even move my body at all. They didn't notice me sneaking away. But I had to think fast. I limped to a dead raider, searching them. I found a knife...

Lilly tried to push Louis down, now was my perfect chance. I mustered up every ounce of strength I had left in me, lunging forward and stabbing the knife into the woman's back. She nearly screamed in pain, letting go of Louis and whirling around at me. There was no time, she didn't hesitate to pull something small and black from its holster. I heard a bang...I saw Louis freeze, eyes widening from fear as tears instantly started falling down his cheeks. I barely felt anything...except for a throbbing ache...and burning. Looking down I only saw red. Blood. Blood stained my jacket and shirt as I realized what'd happened. "Lou--" I whispered as my legs buckled underneath me. I hit the hard ground, seeing through my blurry vision Louis hit Lilly over the head with a rock. He didn't stop until she was dead.

"Clem! Clementine, can you hear me?!" He slid onto the gravel, grabbing my arm. I could feel how shaky he was. "Clementine, please don't do this..." The boy shook his head, tears pouring from his eyes. I frowned...this isn't what I wanted. My eyes closed involuntarily...I couldn't control myself anymore. "Clem!" He shook me slightly as I looked at him a second. "I'm sorry." My own words were the last thing I heard, before the darkness swept over me.

"Louis, is she gonna turn?" A small voice echoed in my mind. It wasn't my imagination though...was it? "No...Clem's strong. She'll live. And if she doesn't..." An older voice replied to the little boy. He sounded sad...and uncertain. "If she doesn't, then what?" He asked. "If she doesn't...then I guess we'd both be heartbroken." I moved my eyebrow, trying desperately to open my eyes somehow. I wanted to tell them I was alive. How could I, though? With sore muscles, and a pain flaring in my stomach, I moved my arm, just barely moving it to the left a little bit. "Did her arm just move?" AJ asked, confused as he watched for another sign. I moved it again, as far as I could. "Don't be silly, it-" Louis stopped mid-sentence, seeing what the little boy had been talking about.

I squinted my eyes open, seeing bright. And two boys in front of me, mouths wide open and in shock. "Clem!" They both exclaimed at the same time. "H...hey..." I whispered, although my throat was dry and scratchy. Louis' face softened as he looked at me, smiling and tears filling his eyes. "I missed you." Louis said as AJ lay down beside me, cuddling up to me. "Me too." He replied as I slowly put my arm around him. "I missed you guys too." I said quietly. Louis came closer, sitting next to me on the bed. He leaned down, pressing his lips against mine for a moment. "You have no idea how much I missed doing that...please don't ever almost die again." He smiled as I patted AJ's afro, forehead touching my boyfriend's. "I won't." I smiled back a little. Hopefully this was the last time I'd have to cheat death.

Sorry if it's kinda choppy. I've been really tired lately...and had a lot on my mind lmao
Hope you enjoyed! 😉
