No one else - Damon - Part 2

"Miss me?" Kol says winking at the brothers and I smile at him taking a sip from my drink and I notice the looks on their faces. "Am I missing something?" I say and Damon speaks up
"Let's just say we did not leave on the best of terms" he says taking a slow sip of his drink
"Is your brother here too?" Elena says and I turn back to Kol
"who's your brother" I say and he smiles at me winking then turns back to her
"Sadly not but he sends his best wishes. He actually sent me here specifically invite you all to the ball my family is hosting. Think of it like a homecoming" he says looking at all the others and I do the same
"As much as I would love that but it's safe to say that we all have family issue, work stuff an/or are sick" Damon says and he is death staring Kol. I turn to Stefan and mouth what's going on? I continue to try and get his attention so i don't hear what Kol says 

"Damon it would be such a shame not to come, what of something happens and we aren't there to protect you" Kol says as I am looking at Stefan, so I don't see Kol lean leans closer to me veins emerging under his eyes and fang erupt from him gums. The whole time he doesn't break eye contact with Damon.

Damon's blood boils and he was about to stand up and speed away with me but I turn back to him so he holds back
"Anyway, I should head back and help with the organising" he says standing up and after he has tucked in his chair "Elena, salvatores always a pleasure" Elena and Stefan roll their eyes and ignore him but Damon does not let him out if his sights. He turns back to me and lifts my hand up so he kisses the back of it "y/n hope to see you there" he winks then he turns and walks out the door.
"Y/n I love you but are you out of your freaking mind" Elena says and I look
"Ok I felt the tension as soon as he sat down what the hell am I missing" I say and Stefan says
"That was Kol Mikaelson" And my eyes widen it sent shivers down my spine and I look at Damon who is just staring at his empty glass. We sat in silence for a moment until elenas phone started ringing
"It's Jer" She says standing up and heading outside and Stefan stand up
"I'll get another round" taking Damon's glass. I wait for him to head to the bar and I lean forward
"Damon I am so sorry I didn't realise" I say and he just stares at his hands. I take a hold of them and he stil doesn't look up
"He had is hands on you and I couldn't do anything. I let him fucking touch you" he says and I lift his head up so he looks at me
"Nothing happened ok and nothing's is going to happened we won't go to that stupid ball and I'm sure the others won't want to go to either" I say and he shakes his eyes
"We have to or he'll hurt you" he says looking at me sadly. I go to retorts but he lets go of my hands and I look at him confused but I realise why when Stefan comes back followed by Elena
"I told Jeremy what happened and he will update the others" she says as she sits down and cuddles into Stefan "What are we going to do?" She says and I look at Stefan
"Should we go to this ball?" And he sighs
"I think some of us should just to keep and eye in them and find out what they are planning and for others to stay away and keep an eye out" he says turning to Damon "what do you think you have been oddly quiet what's the matter" and Damon says
"Well brother quite frankly I am pissed off the people I hate most in the world are back town and let's just say I am not a happy bunny" he says taking a swig of his drink "I think we should all go to the ball so we are all together, safery in numbers is the saying isn't it?" And Elena sits up
"Why are you in such a mood? More then usual?"
"BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT MORE AT STAKE THIS TIME" he erupts taking us all by surprise. He stands up and walks out of the grille, we all share a look and I stand up
"I'll go check on him" I say and I run after him.

When I speed out the door I look around and when I turn my head to the left I see him walking very fast, so I sprint towards him and when I reach him I run in front of him so he can't wait
"Damon w wait" I say and I hold in to him as I catch my breath "re remind me never to r run after a vampire" I say which makes him laugh slightly
"Duly noted" he says and I look up at him I take his hands once I have caught my breath
"Are you ok?" I say and he nods
"I was just angry that he was here and close to you, and I couldn't just grab you and keep you safe" he says and I put both my hands on his face
"Damon, you always keep me safe and I know you will always be there to protect me. I love you so much please don't beat yourself up over a stupid asshole" I say which makes him laugh and he shakes his arms around my waist
"I won't let him hurt you, ever" he says and I nod smiling
"I know" I say and I lean up and kiss him. He sighs
"I wish we didn't have to go to this ball but he will come after you if we don't" he says and I look down because I don't want him to see that what he says scares me. I need to be strong for him and he lifts my head up so I'm looking at him and he says
"I will not leave your side and I will not let him anywhere near you" he says and I nod he leans in and we share a kiss. We didn't need words at that moment but this kiss reassured us both that we will always have each other.
"She is what you have at stake" Elena says and me and Damon pull apart and look at the two staring back at us and he nods
"What do you want?" he says and we turn to face them, I smack him because he was rude
"The others are at my house, we need to make a plan of attack if we are going through with this" she says and I nod and we all head back to car.

The Gilbert's
"So what's our plan here, are we all going?" Matt says
"Because that is the last thing I want to do with my time" Caroline says and I give her a look that says is that the only reason and she rolls her eyes making me smile.
"I think we should all go, strength in numbers" Stefan says then Tyler comes back with
"What if he already has a plan in the works and some of us aren't there to stop it?" He says and Damon retorts
"You just don't want to see Klaus because you will be at his beck an call" tyler growls and reply
"And What would happen if the people who stay back end up with targets and dead by the end of the night". After I say that there is a moment of awkward silence until Stefan speaks up again
"So it's settled we all go" then Elena replies
"Only to make an appearance make sure they see we did come them leave as soon as possible. We don't want this night to end in a flood bath" we all nod.

After we had settled on what time to get arrive at the mansion we all went our separate ways to get ready. I drove me, Damon, Stefan and Elena back to the boarding house. I took a quick shower and did my makeup before I went through to Stefans room where I saw Elena putting the finishing touches to her makeup, she looks up at me when I lean against the door frame
"Where are the boys?" I ask and she says
"They are downstairs sorting out a plan for if the plan we already made backfires. Plus men always get ready fast" I say and I smile
"Can you help me pick out a dress?" I ask and she puts down her brush stands up and as says
"Of course" and we both head through to Damon's room.

We spend maybe five minutes lol through some options until we find the one. As she is helping me into it I ask
"Do you think anything will happen tonight?" And she lets out a small sigh
"I don't know but what I do know is Stef and Damon will not let anything happen to us" she says and I nod. She pats me on the shoulders once she zipped me up and I turn to her and say
"Shall we go see our men?" I hold my arm out for her to link up with and we walk arm on arm down the stairs to greet our very handsome boyfriends.

"You scrub up well" I say to Damon as he hands me a glass of champagne, I see the smirk creep on his face as he real,use
"Well my suit is just trying to catch up with my amazingly handsome face" I roll my eyes at his remarks as I turn to the two whose conversations ends at the same time as ours.
"To a calm and peaceful night" Elena says and the three reply
"Cheers". But in all of our heads we knew that the chances of that happening were very slim.

The Mikaelson compound
As I pull up to the road just outside the compound I see some of the others are standing outside their cars. I park the car and we all get out and wonder towards them.
"Who are we waiting for?" Stefan ask as we all look around to see who is present. I only got a flashback to school when on school trips they would constantly take head counts to make sure they haven't lost a child.
"Just Barbie and Bon Bon" Damon reply's, as soon as he said that it clicked in my head that me and Elena were the only girls present. Just as I had that realisation, another pair of headlights light up the road so we all turn around in defence mode see a car pulling up behind mine. We don't relax until we see the two girls walk up behind us the sound of their clicking heals being carried by the wind. Once they walk right up to us we all look around to see if everyone was ready and without saying a word we all started walking towards the compound. You could feel the tension and dread in the air as we all walked towards the steps as if we were all going to walk the plank. Me and Damon were walking next to each other not saying a word until he gentle took my arm and we broke away from the group
"You ok?" I ask and he nods he looks away and says
"Me and Stefan made an agreement tonight whilst you and Elena were getting ready. I have to persuade him to do it but in the end he agreed it was right" he pauses for a moment and I look at him waiting for the rest. "I will always put your safety before my own and before anyone else's you know that. I know Stefan feels the same way about Elena. That is way if anything happens we are leaving an heading to the Gilbert's cabin just the four of us. No one else knew just the four of us and we will stay there until everything is sorted here" he says and I look at him confused
"What about the others? Are we just leaving them here to fend for themselves?" I say and he replies
"Look I know you will not be happy about this but they are all either supernatural or thrive from killing the supernatural you and Elena are human and we care about you way too much to let you risk your lives over people that are not worth it" I look at him
"And our friends lives aren't?" Damon replies
"Someone of them are immortal, the others will take a lot for them to give up. You and Elena have your wholes lives ahead of you and I certainly cannot face this horrible life on earth without you". I nod and take his hands
"Ok" I say kissing him lightly stroking his face "ok" I say nuzzling my nose against his. Once I pull away form his I take his hand and say
"Let's get this night over with eh?" I say making his laugh slight ply as I lead him into the compound.
