Cloak ran as hard as they could.
Away from the royal palace.
Away from the target of their failed quest.
Looking back once to confirm if the Nightmare was giving chase...
"..."
...but she wasn't.
She was simply standing there with Ludovica Aldert by her side.
Cloak could feel it.
Their gaze, they were watching them.
"[Jump]."
They said, trying to figure out something.
Even if they thought of it as too hopeful.
'Nothing. I am still inside her spell's range...as absurd as that is...'
And so, there was only one thing they could do.
'I have to keep running. I will use Route F and get out of the Capital altogether, there might be a chance that I will be outside of her range by then.'
Thought Cloak in a rather calm manner for what they had just experienced, their mind coming up with the mental map they had created of the Capital.
'I need to report this...'
Thought Cloak but just as they were about to take out their means of communication...
*tsuu...*
"Hm?"
...they heard a small, faint buzz inside their ears. Their sight too, it became hazy for an instant, but they felt fine, there were no abnormalities with their rhythm and so on.
Still, that made them shake their head a bit to try and take care of whatever was that, just before various [Mana Bolts] flew past them.
They came from a group of Knights that had started giving chase to them.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem for Cloak but...now that their invisibility was broken, everyone could see them, including the guards and knights that patrolled the capital.
Not only that, they had seen Cloak in the multiple magical projections of the recent scene that their failed assassination attempt caused.
Of course, they would be after them.
"By the authority of the Royal Knights, I order you to stop! [Mana Bolt]!"
Shouted one of those Knights as they tried to give chase but were quickly left behind by Cloak's speed.
It was a sorry display, but that was as much as that certain Knight could do in such populated area.
"...[Paralyzing Vines]!"
Exclaimed another one of their pursuers, trying to immobilize Cloak with a spell of the nature attribute.
One that was more precise on its execution.
'Useless.'
Thought Cloak as they jumped at the very instant the vines sprouted from beneath their feet, taking to the air and subsequent roofs, ignoring completely those Knights and leaving them behind.
With that out of the way for the moment, Cloak then finally took out a small crystal from one of the pouches that were hidden inside their cloak.
"Receptionist. The Quest is forfeit. I repeat, the Quest is forfeit."
