I hate this.
I hate this situation.
I hate being here in this...this carcass of a city.
A disgusting masquerade where everywhere I turn there's only monsters.
Monsters who try to fool us into thinking they're people.
Monsters that have succeeded in doing so with my comrades, my family.
Even my best friend has fallen for their little play, but well, that is how she is too.
If there's someone that is able take that difficult step towards something better out of their own free will, then she'll give them that chance, that is just who Natalia is.
And the others would follow her without a doubt.
Except Carol but she...she is something else anyway.
With or without us she'd go into this place in search for her brother, of that I'm completely sure.
In any case, we hadn't even taken a proper step into this ruined city when we met another monstrous inhabitant of it.
It was a massive variant of a Savage Spriggan, one that had the gall to wear a pathetic attempt of a humanoid face.
That hideous thing of a guide, Roga, exchanged a few words with him, at first it seemed surprised but then that turned into displeasure and a look of distrust at us.
Even then, Roga managed to convince him by giving him the same sappy speech he gave to us and a question about how he should be thinking the same thing since he was actually grateful with the servant of the Nightmare that was working with his wife.
And then...that thing...that mockery of life...looked embarrassed for a moment while Roga laughed as if they were normal.
Seriously...their attempts at showing emotions and the like disgust me.
But what I find most disgusting of all is their eyes.
Those unsettling eyes.
Roga's and that thing's eyes glisten with a shine that shouldn't be possible and yet, they do. But I know very well that that is just another one of their traps.
What manner of twisted joke is this?
That is a question that I kept asking myself as we're permitted to go inside the city but not freely, no, we were Roga's responsibility as that monster at the gate made very clear with its booming voice.
Looking at Roga, that was his plan all along or most likely, this was the script all along.
Just like what followed after we entered.
Just like the situation we're currently in.
We are constantly surrounded by monsters as we walk through this place.
Some look at us from their ruined homes, while others act as if they are overcoming something and go out of their way to greet us.
Their forms are as horrible as they are different.
Each and every one of them is a unique monster on their own.
Some are laughable at their attempts of a humanoid form while others can't hide their monstrous selves.
But one thing remains the same in all of them, their eyes, their disgusting eyes, they all have that shine.
If I didn't need to act because of the Guild's mission and my friends, then I would surely not dirty my eyes by looking at them.
