Chapter 90: Reigniting a soul, one wall at a time!

As the Absurd and her group went through the Ever-Changing Maze in quite the literal fashion and towards the next floor of the Dungeon, the maid that stayed behind in Tolemac, Patricia, descended from the observation tower after a couple more hours of working there.

"So, are you sure you want to do this today? Don't you want to work a bit more on the design side of things before going to my husband? I saw a couple of details that you could improve upon, you know."

Following her closely was Virid Espi, a harpy, Protector of Tolemac and the one who designed the very city she protected. The midday sun bathed her pitch-black feathers as she walked beside Patricia, who had an enthusiastic smile on her face while carrying a large and rolled up piece of paper.

"Oh? Be sure to tell me what those details are later! But right now, I feel that by going to see your husband I can learn something important for the design of the city in general! Plus, I can take the first step in fulfilling my promise to you and that is also very important to me."

"I see. But be sure to not lose your patience with him. He is...a bit rough and he doesn't talk much unless he really feels the need to."

"*giggle*Don't worry, I can handle roughness pretty well even if I look like this."

"...I guess you are right, considering who you serve and all. Alright! Show me your first try!"

"Yes!"

Full of her usual cheerfulness and enthusiasm, Patricia walked along the main road with Virid and towards the city's entrance where Virid's husband acted as a gatekeeper. As they did so, the people of Tolemac watched them closely. Some did so with a certain wariness while others approached them in a more trusting manner and even said hello to them. Or to be more specific, those emotions were directed at Patricia. A subordinate of the woman who a few hours ago had a 'talk' with all of them at the central plaza and one who had specially tried her 'best' to deal with a certain number of them.

Indeed, that talk had already brought on such reactions from the general populace, making them more explicit even those wary of Patricia would still look at her with curious eyes.

Wondering...even if for a moment...if the Master of such a delicate looking person could accomplish her goal and what would they do if she actually did.

A question they had forgotten about.

A question they wouldn't have made if not because for the Absurd's authoritative 'persuasion'.

A question...of hope.

And Patricia did her best, warmly talking with those that approached her, while smiling at those who watched her from afar. All while Virid patiently watched over her or talked with those who approached her as a Protector and asked questions, seeking her own point of view on the situation.

'These people, they are just as wary as I was yesterday, but they still come to ask me if it's alright to believe on that bouncing disaster's words. Really, she even managed to push my people's hearts to this point when we Protectors couldn't...ugh, I really don't like her...but seeing my people like this... Thinking of something besides being forgotten or cursed is a welcome sight. Then there is this girl. I really hope my husband sees what I see in her.'

Those were her thoughts as she kept watching Patricia interact with her people along the way.

They both did not notice, however, that what they thought would be a 'quick walk' to the city's entrance would become an hour and half longer of a walk due to all of that.

"Well, there he is."

Still, they arrived at the city's entrance and there he stood, a hulking behemoth of both rock and wood, Tolemac's gatekeeper, Morack. Resembling more a statue of an old man with hammer for a right hand and vines for a left hand, he barely moved at all from where he stood. Even as Patricia and his wife, Virid, began their approach, he didn't move.
