As the Absurd resumed her descent inside the perilous dungeon, the Trial of the Green Knight, the sky began to be painted with the colors of the sunset. Beautiful hues of orange, purple, and even pink greeted those who simply looked up for a moment, giving them pause.
Truly, a gift hand painted by a certain Goddess.
A reward for those who worked hard throughout the day.
A cheer for those who kept fighting, reminding them part of why they were fighting for.
An expression of derision to those who desire nothing more than to see such beauty extinguished.
Some could say that the Goddess was giving them 'the finger' with proof that another day had passed without them managing to accomplish their goal, but said Goddess is not that vulgar of course.
And just like those in Tolemac could enjoy such a beautiful sunset, those who inhabited a certain castle enjoyed it too.
Indeed, even if said castle was in an altogether separate space, a space that belonged to the Absurd.
The Castle of the Ever-Burning Will.
A place the Absurd, her daughters and her Maid-Knights called home.
Even the Goddess considered such a place her home next to her very own divine realm.
As such, she gifted such place with the same sky as her own.
A sky that was being admired by two of the highest-ranking Maid-Knights, the ones who court the Absurd, Erevain and Gabrielle. They were both leaning on the railing of a balcony, one that faced the incredibly beautiful and large inner garden that the Absurd created in tandem with the Goddess.
Their hair swayed as a calm breeze caressed their faces, one wore a solemn expression while the other, an almost perpetual smiler, showed a calm and thoughtful smile. Behind them was a beautiful outdoor table along with a couple of chairs. On top of that table one could see a tea set and a bound document.
Its contents were the most recent report from Erica, one that spoke of the events that occurred after the previous report. The most pressing matter, the one that had them in such state, was the matter concerning the rough talking maid, Evangeline.
"Do you think she will be able to pass such a trial, Gabrielle?"
"..."
The first one to break the silence that had been reigning around them was Erevain as she turned her gaze towards her rival and friend. Such a question was an expected one after reading such report. Meanwhile, said friend remained silent for a moment as she kept her gaze towards the colorful sky, her eyes barely open in this occasion. Then she slowly turned to Erevain.
"My, oh my, that is certainly a difficult question."
Her response may have seemed sarcastic or even pompous in a vacuum, but it was the opposite. Her voice carried a clear concern and...uncertainty.
"So, you think so too..."
"Yes, after all, we both know about what she is dealing with."
Erevain could not help but look down after such words, while Gabrielle, looked up once more. A nostalgic sigh could be heard coming out from Erevain's mouth before she spoke again.
"When she arrived seeking to participate in the trials for the Order some time had already passed from what happened, and yet, what was reflected in her eyes then made it seemed as if it had just happened the day before. Such anguish, guilt, pain...wounds no healer can heal."
