Hi! Sorry for not updating for what seems, at least to me, a long time. Tbh, I had some pressure on the last few days.
Well, this little one was something that just came to me, and I had to write.
Hope you'll enjoy!!😄😄

Cal's pov:

I finally get on top of the hill, pulling Mare's hand and tugging her along. She laughs, stumbling next to me.

She gasps at the beautiful view in front of us. Montfort's mountains and valleys stretch out, little streams curling around the hills before spilling into the ocean. The water sparkle with the setting sun's reflection. The sunset sets the the sky into a wild combination of lush colours. Red, yellow, purple and blue play on the sky. The light sends the clouds into different hues of pink and orange, dancing on the horizon.

Mare tucks herself to me, a grin on her face as she looks on. I wrap my arms around her, keeping her close. We stand there, enjoying each other's company.

"Quite romantic." She murmurs. I kiss the top of her head in response.

My heart starts to hammer in my chest, and I'm unable to decipher whether she says anything else. I lick my lips, and inhaling deeply, I sink to one knee.

She looks confused for a second, then he hands fly to her mouth as her eyes widen, the pupils eating up all the colour. I take the ring out of my pocket.

Tears flow down her cheeks. Breathless, I say "Mare Molly Barrow, would you marry me?" I swallow, waiting.

She shakes her head, and I feel my heart shutters in my chest. "Mare..." I say, reaching with a hand. She pulls back, still crying. I close the little box, fighting my own tears.

"How could you?!" She asks.

A sob escapes her mouth. "After everything? Really?! How-" she strutters.

She sets down the hill, running away. I can't even summon the strength to go after her, plead or ask her forgiveness for rushing.

Her sobs fade into the distance, until I can only hear mine.

I wake up, gasping. I grab at the sheets, trying to contain the heat rolling from me. Someone shifts next to me on the bed, reacting to my thrashing.

I glance to my side, and sigh with relief, slumping back into the bed. I pull Mare close, needing to make sure this is real. She nestles her head into my chest, her face relaxed and peaceful.

I wait a few moments, confirming she fell back asleep, before checking the drawer on my side. The box sits there, the ring still on the soft velvet. It's as beautiful as it was when I picked it.

A dream, a nightmare. It wasn't real, it was just my fear. Mare wouldn't run away.

I already asked for her family's blessing, and had numerous talks with the rest of her friends, making sure it's the right move. I talked to Mare as well, and she did say she'll marry me when I ask.

Calm down Calore, before you burn down the house.

I lay there, complementing the night horror. Despite everything, the fear of rejection is still there. But so is my confidence in our relationship.

Mare moves, opening her eyes at last. She smiles at me, kissing my cheek. "Good morning." She murmurs into my neck. I smile back at her, adoring her for a second, the way the sunlight illuminates her face, and how adorable she looks in the morning, when she's calm and sleepy.

She squints at me. "Is everything alright?" She asks, worried. I nod, pressing a few kisses to her lips. She looks unconvinced, but lets it slide. Maybe after today, I'll tell her what this was about, and she'd probably laugh at me thinking she even might refused.

She kisses me again, before purring "in that case, you'll be able to complete the mission."

I smirk "what mission, exactly?" I say before dropping a kiss on her neck. Mare smiles at the sensation, and pointing one finger at me she says:

"Get. Me. Food."

Well, if that wasn't a ride. I hope I didn't make you too depressed on the beginning. I think the next one will also be wedding related. I just had to write it because I never saw one like this.
Anyway, updates will come more often now, and I hope I gave you readers Victoria level heartbreak, though this is a high pick. 😊
