"Aba't ampogi!" Nakangiting salubong ni Lee kay Odyssey sa labas ng bahay nila. Nakasuot ito ng plantsadong-plantsadong navy blue na polo at corduroy slacks.
Odi moved his face away from Lee's pinching and fashioned a very irritated face.
"Lee!" He chides.
Pero lalong ngumiti si Lee, hindi dahil gusto niyang inaasar ito. She knew him so well that she recognized this as Odi's nerves.
"Wag ka nang kabahan. Sabi ko naman sa'yo, alam nq nila. Matagal na nilang alam 'di ba?"
But Odyssey has good reason to feel this way. Tandang-tanda niya pa noong unang beses niyang pumunta dito. It was that moment that he was there to ask for forgiveness but ended up hurting her more. All because of his pride.
Nang tanungin siya noon dati kung nanliligaw siya kay Lee, he said no. Not because he didn't want to, but because he never thought about it. Yet. At sobrang liit ng tingin niya sa sarili niya. Faced with the domineering Arthur Gabriel, and the well-dressed Aldrin Castro, he felt so small.
Tapos ngayon na parang kinain niya lahat ng sinabi niya. Yes, hindi siya nanligaw, and he knew it was something that he owed Lee that didn't need any reminding. Pero tatapak na siya ngayon bilang boyfriend ng kaisa-isang anak nila. He could almost hear his heartbeat.
"Halika na."
Dinala siya ni Lee sa loob ng pamilyar na bahay. Another wave of embarrassment flashed through him nang maalala niya kung paano siya naglasing dati when he realized what really felt. Kung anong lakas ng loob niya kapag lasing, kabaliktaran ngayon.
Nagantay muna siya sandali sa sala habang sinusundo ni Lee ang ama niya sa taas. Awtomatiko siyang napatayo nang bumaba na ang mga ito.
"Good... morning po." He straightened his polo and extended his hand.
"Dad, si Odyssey. Boyfriend ko." Nakangiting sabi ni Lee.
"Happy new year po." This was some sort paying respects.
Inabot ng tatay ni Lee ang kamay ni Odyssey as he sighed in relief. It wasn't so difficult, was it? Hindi niya alam kung bakit kinakabahan pa rin siya. The coldness of his hand against the warmth of the other hand.
He was expecting to hear an earful. Mga pagpapangaral. Mga bilin. Worse, na kastiguhin sya nito for having a relationship so young.
But Arthur Gabriel looked a little distracted, he even felt like his mind is somewhere.
"I need to leave na. Nak?" Hinalikan nito ang noo ni Lee at humarap kay Odyssey.
"Pa..." Angal ni Lee. Clearly disappointed of her father's attitude. "You agreed for us three to have dinner? Umalis na nga si mommy, busy ka din? It's New Year."
