Summary: Your mom is going to kill you
AN: Happy New Year!
There's no getting out of this. Your mom had told you about a snowstorm hitting them a few weeks back and yet you hadn't listened. Even though, you had paid for your flight already, it had gotten cancelled. There were going no planes flying into the city, meaning that you weren't able to go home to your family. You dreaded the thought of giving her a call but you had no other choice. With a sigh, you dialed her number.
"Hey, mom. How are you?"
"Oh no. What happened? You only ever give me a call when something goes wrong?"
"That's not true! I call plenty of other times."
A women motions if the seat besides you is empty and you nod your head so she can sit.
"If you say so, dear. I'm doing fine. Your brothers have already arrived. It's just you and your sister missing."
"About that..."
"I knew it! I knew something happened. I swear to god (y/n), you better not be telling me that you waited last minute to fly out here. I told you that there was a snowstorm hitting us soon!"
The women besides you covers her mouth to stifle a laugh as she she can overhear everything.
"Moooom. I know. I know. I promise to make it up to you. I'll take the first plane to the city and I'll finally do all those traditions you've been wanting us to do for a while."
"You better. It won't be the same without you, dear. I'll save some cake for you. Stay safe and I'll see you soon."
"Thanks mom. Love you."
"I love you too."
You hang your head as you hang up.
"Your flight was cancelled too?"
"Oh uh yeah. Waited last minute and I guess I'll be stuck here catching up on some work. Nice way to start the year, huh?"
The women smiles and removes her gloves and scarf.
"That's not a proper way to start the year. Come on. Lets go get some dinner and get to know each other. It beats working through the holiday."
There was a lot of work that you had hoped to get done on the plane but considering what had happened, you knew that you should still be working on them. The women's offer sounded tempting and she was right about not starting the year working.
"You've convinced me. Lets go then."
The two of you grabbed your things and headed to the only restaurant that was opened. It wasn't full considering that most of the flights had gotten cancelled. Guess, they all had the bright idea of heading out earlier.

Agreeing to dinner with, Katie, as you had come to know had been the best thing you've ever agreed on. She was funny, smart and overall quite good at making you forget you weren't going to start the new year with your family. It almost made you upset about not being able to spend another day with her.
"Hey, did I say something to upset you?"
"Not at all. I'm just not really looking forward to heading our own ways. I quite liked talking to you. I hope I'm not being too forward."
Katie smiles and interlaces her fingers with yours.
"I liked talking to you too."
Just then, the tv starts the usual countdown for the start of the year. You turn to look at the screen, not noticing how Katie had leaned in closer to you. Right as it gets to the 3, you turn back around to find her a much closer to you.
"3.....2.....1"
Katie didn't move any closer, letting you decide if you wanted to return the kiss. As the 1 was shown, you cupped her cheek and pulled her in for a light kiss.
"Happy New Years, (y/n)."
She whispers when you pull away

The two of you spent the night in a bench for two, cuddled close to each other. This had to been one of your to three new years. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end when you were both woken up by an announcement about flights opening back up.
"I guess this is goodbye?"
"For now. I'd like to go on another date with you. Give me your phone and I'll give you a call when I get back to the city."
You nodded and smiled before reciting your number.
"Perfect. My flight is leaving already but I really can't wait to come back."
"Me neither."
Catching you by surprise, she wraps her arm around your neck and pulls you down for another kiss.
"I'll message you when my plane lands."
You watched as she headed to her gate before making your way back to yours. Your plane leaves an hour later and manages to arrive earlier than Katie's
"Tell me it's true?"
"Tell you what us true?
Your mom and brothers were waiting for you at the entrance as you headed out. After giving them all a hug, your mom decided to bring up what she had seen last night. She hits your upper arm when you decide to play dumb.
"That you spent welcoming the new year with that actress from my favorite show."
"What are you talking about? How did you even know about that? Wait actress!?"
"You didn't know she was famous!?"
"It never came up!"
Katie had a laugh when you explained to her what happened. She honestly thought that you were faking it when you asked for her name.
