"I'm sorry but no. I won't go on a date with you."

You clear your throat and give her a smile.

"Oh. I'm the one who should be sorry. I read all the signs wrong. Just forget that I ever asked."

Not sure as to whether or not to hand her the flowers, you just placed them down on her table.

"I should go, I forgot that I had some event."

"Wait, (y/n)..."

Phoebe had tried to stop you, but you were already out the door.

She wasn't surprised at all that you had actually asked her out on a date. In fact, she had been expecting but even with her knowing that you were going to ask her out on a date, Phoebe still wasn't prepared. In all honesty, she had thought that she was ready to move. Ready to trust whoever she was dating but the moment the question left your lips, all her memories of what happened had come rushing back to her. Phoebe knew that you weren't ever going to hurt her like the way her ex did, but she was still afraid. Afraid that she would lose a friend in the end. She wanted to go after you but figured it was better to leave you alone for a while.

"I know she told you no, (y/n) but you need to understand that she was heartbroken the last time she ended up trusting someone with her heart. You might be a close friend of her but you didn't see how devasted she had been when she found out that her ex had cheated on her."

You sigh and nod in understanding. Claire had a point, Phoebe might've seem like she wanted to date you but when the time came, she still had fears.

"You're right. I shouldn't have just left like that. We should have talked it out."

"Yes, you should have but what done is done. Right now, what you need to show her is that you're going to be there for her as a friend. When the time is right, she'll open up to you."

You didn't stop hanging out with Phoebe after what happened. In fact, your friendship grew stronger. You were there for her on her highs and lows and you were happy that you still had your friend. Even if she chooses to just continue being friends, you would be okay as long as she was happy.

Phoebe came to see that you weren't like any of her exes. She genuinely could see that you cared for her. You didn't push her by asking her on another date or even mentioned that day. Unlike every other person that just kept pushing her and asking her out on a date. It was a nice change of pace for once.

After growing much closer to you, Phoebe felt ready to start a new relationship. She had fallen more in love with you and was more than sure that you wouldn't break her heart.

"Hey, what's going on? I practically sped as fast as I could to get here. Are you okay?"

Phoebe smiles and opens the door wider for you to step in. You walk in, only to find her entire living room and kitchen decorated for a romantic evening.

"Oh..."

You finally took notice that she had on a dress and matching heels that made her look absolutely gorgeous. The sight of her in it was enough to almost leave you breathless.

"Did you need me to help you for your date?"

Phoebe actually laughed before taking your hand and leading you to the table that she had set up. She helped you take a seat and leaned down to kiss your cheek.

"You are my date, (y/n)"

Claire did not stop saying 'I told you so' when she found out that the two of you started dating. For once, you were glad that you had listened to her.
