(Sam)

Colby's house was a fair size.

It surely wasn't a mansion but it wasn't a little house either. As I got into my car, I turned it up, the roaring engine sounding through my street also scaring off a few pigeons, but I never gave it much thought.

I actually enjoyed the humming sound of the engine when I pressed down on the gas or simply drove at average speeds. It was a keeper.

The streets lights turned on when the sun went down and the few cars on the road were soon to disappear. The day was soon to end but I had an assignment that would cost me a lot of grades if I couldn't get it done.

Using the nerd for my assignments and such surely wasn't fair, but I was desperate and he was my tool to success. Well, in education at least. He had the brains of Einstein that were merely put to use but could be useful to me as well. So I had to take this opportunity. Who wouldn't in the end?

As I parked into Colby's driveway, I couldn't help but question when I hear a faint yell from inside. Stopping in my tracks, I scanned the yard and road behind me, finding it completely deserted.

I brushed the thought off and made my way up to the brown-wooded door separating me from my education provider. In other words, the nerd.

I raised my hand to the door bell and rang it once as I waited patiently. It was oddly quiet despite the crickets creaking about. I furrowed my brows when no one answered and rang again, this time hearing a few faint thuds and a yell.

"What the-"

I rang the doorbell once more, hoping to be let in soon. It didn't sound too good in there. "Colby?" I called, and rang once more, debating whether or not to barge in.

"Colby!" A voice screamed from inside making me stiffen and stand up straighter. I tried opening the door but found it locked instead. "Colby! Open up!" I called, banging my fist on the door and ringing the doorbell.

The few more thuds and a yelp were good enough to have me in fight mode. I dropped my bag to the side and took a few steps back before running forward and slamming my shoulder into the door.

I grunted and rammed it again, hearing a faint 'ktch'. "Colby!" I yelled, raising my foot and sending it against the lock. The door swung open a little before I shoved it open and ran inside.

My feet automatically guided me to the sounds of panting and shaky breathing, where I found Colby's brother holding him against the wall with his fist swung high.

Colby's scared breathing turned into little sobs of fear as his hands wrapped around his brother's fist, trying to pry away his shirt weakly. "Hey! Get the fuck away from him!!" I roared, sprinting forward and ripping the brother away.

Colby dropped to the ground as he trembled, his brother staring down at his clenched fist with his back faced towards us. "Get the fuck out. What kind of brother are you!?" I growled, glancing briefly at the small boy and back to his brother who had almost hurt him. His own family.

"Get the fuck out, damn it!" I screamed, landing my fist in the wall near me. The brother did as told, ripping his jacket off the couch and willingly walking out of the house. My pants and Colby's cries were the only things heard as I crouched next to him, awkwardly pulling him into my embrace.

My heart couldn't help but hurt. As I had once gone through the same thing..
