Bonus Chapter Two ~ Jin

You see, being empty is not really being empty. It's because happiness is a pleasing weight that sits on you more often than not, like how air pressure sits on you, and you just don't notice it. But, when you are sad that weight drops off giving the illusion you are weightless or 'empty'. But you are never really empty... you're just full of the wrong thing.

That's how Jin feels as he sits inside his favourite coffeehouse, mug of hazelnut latte nestled between his palms untouched.

"Acute Myeloid Leukemia."

He certainly wasn't expecting his physician to drop that bombshell when he went back earlier that morning to discuss his recent test results.

"Chemotherapy targets fast dividing cells, many patients have responded successfully to treatment." His physician had said, every action he took was precise and purposeful as he smiled in the cold and distant way professionals do. Jin can never relax around such expressions, he needs a genuine face, preferably a smile, but if not he would really rather they didn't fake it.

"Do you need me to call someone for you Seokjin?"

"No, need time to process this first."

He wasn't ready to tell anyone because the moment he did it was real, the moment he did everything would change.

So instead he's sitting inside his favourite coffeehouse, watching the couple on the table opposite as they share a slice of what looks like carrot cake. It's such a simple interaction, one he usually wouldn't even notice but now he does.

It's then it suddenly dawns on him.

He will never get to share moments like that with someone.

He will never graduate.

He will never get the chance to pursue his dreams.

He will never get married or have children.

He promised Taehyung that the two of them would be together forever, that it was them against the world.

A promise he can no longer keep.

So now Jin has two options to choose from.

1. He can be mad at the world, he can scream and cry and say how unfair this is and allow the fear to consume him.

Or

2. He can smile, bury the fear and anguish deep down and make the most of whatever time he's got left.

He can't pick option one.

He will stay positive.

He will fight this until the very end.

It's later that evening as he lays in bed that Jin allows himself one moment of weakness.

He allows himself to cry.

He allows himself to feel angry.

He allows himself to mourn the life he will never get to experience.

Then he takes a deep breath in, locks all the pain away and breathes out.

Flashback.

"Do you think the ladybug will go to heaven?" A nine year old Taehyung asks, gentle brown eyes filled with tears as he cradles said ladybug between his hands.

"I think the ladybug will go to her own version of heaven." Jin smiles, gently wiping Taehyung's tears away.

"Her own heaven?"

"I don't think it's the same for everyone, if it was...it would be pretty boring don't you think?"

Taehyung furrowed his brow, lips forming a pout.

"So....what would her heaven look like."

"Well, ladybugs like to be outside and they love flowers and stuff so maybe....maybe her version of heaven will be a garden! That would be cool right?!"

Taehyung nods enthusiastically.

"So what would your version of heaven be hyung?"

"That's a silly question Taetae, my heaven is wherever you are." Jin giggles, taking the ladybug gently from his brother's hands.

"What about you Taetae? What would your heaven be?"

Taehyung watches as Jin places the ladybug on the petal of a pink rose.

"Your silly too hyung, it's wherever you are too."

The two giggle.

"Hyung why aren't you burying the ladybug?"

"I don't think the ladybug would want to be buried, here is better don't you think."

Taehyung scrunches up his nose and nods.

"I'll race you to the treehouse." He yells, sprinting down the path.

"Hey, no fair! You didn't even warn me!" Jin yells from behind as he follows.

End of flashback.

Jin smiles at the memory, decides in that moment he's going to make Taehyung a new promise.

He can't promise him it's going to be them against the world, can't promise forever.

But he can promise that he will always find a way back to him, that they will be together again.

It's a promise he keeps.
