Mia's P.O.V.

"Dad. Dad. Dad. Dad-"

"Mia.", he laughed as I followed him through the apartment, "Can I do something for you?" I got a little serious,

"You love me, right?" His eyebrows knitted together as he got a little concerned,

"Of course I love you, silly.", he paused, "Why would you ask me that?" I shrugged,

"Just one of those days."

"Wanna... go get ice cream and go to the beach?"

"Ice cream!?", Emmy exclaimed running in. Jake followed,

"Nuh uh little miss. You're grounded. No goong out to do fun things." She pouted,

"Being grounded sucks."

"Yes, it does. But you're the one who colored on the wall. You can always choose the alternative and end your grounding."

"What's an al-alter-aller-"

"Alternative?", he chuckled.

"Yeah! What's that?"

"It's another option besides your current one."

"Oh. What is it?"

"A spanking." She pouted a little,

"Oh. No thank you.", she said sadly.

"Alright. Then get back to writing lines please." She whined but left as I shook my head,

"How can she choose grounding over... that..."

"Everyone's different kiddo.", dad said softly. Jake nodded,

"She freaks. It's a really bad situation for everyone and I hate putting her through all that stress. For you, it happens, you're forgiven and it's over. But it's traumatic for her."

"She's gonna be really messed up once she gets to school where she has no choice.", I said. Dad shook his head,

"That's not necessarily true. There are kids who don't get spanked because it either didn't effect them at all or it really was a traumatic event to them. But their punishments are much stricter and longer and more boring."

"Yeah, no. I'll take the easier road." Jake laughed,

"Me too."

I walked into the apartment and stopped. It felt... weird... tense.

"Hello?", I called. Jake came in from the kitchen,

"Shh. Don't yell."

"Why? Is everything okay?"

"Dad's in a bad mood.", he said quietly, "I can't figure out why. He's just being an ass."

"Jake if you'd like to call me names you can move out.", dad said sternly. Jake froze,

"I-I'm sorry."

"Mia go finish your homework.", he said to me, "Your science grade better be up by the end of this week."

"I still don't understand the class.", I said softly, "Any of it." He shrugged,

"Keep studying I guess. I don't know what else to tell you Mia."

"Oh. O-Okay.", I whispered, shuffling to the stairs.

"Do I need to leave?", I heard Jake whisper.

"Don't talk shit on me behind my back. Especially to your sister."
