When we finally arrived at the hotel I was surprised that Cassie wanted to stay with me instead of Alexandra considering what had happened between us. She is sitting on the bed with the blanket wrapped around her shoulders and her legs crossed Indian style, as she flips through the channels on the TV.
I just stare at her trying to think of when would be the best time to tell her before I sighed as I realized that I was just stalling what had to be done. I rub my face roughly with my hands before I stop, leaving my face partially covered by my hands.
“She was my sister.” Cassie froze before she slowly turned her gaze towards me. “She’s the only family I can stand the sight of, that’s why I didn’t tell them about you. I don’t want you to think you don’t matter.”
I didn’t notice I was staring at the ground until I felt her light touch on my shoulder as she slowly wrapped her arms around my neck. I was taken aback when she just smiled at me lovingly.
“Thank you for telling me.” Cassie kissed my cheek before she rested her head upon my shoulder.
I grimaced thinking about how much more I had to tell her and wondered if she would still feel the same when the worst was said.
I grabbed her shoulders to pull her away from me and she gave me a confused look that seemed to be a little pained.
“Ruqa. E roqa kura su sarr.” (Beloved. I have more to tell.) I was glad that my mate spoke the old language since it accidentally came out. She just nodded her head as she looked at me patiently.
I took a deep breath and to compose myself to speak the right language. “I didn’t tell you my name because I hate hearing it. I hate the name that ‘those’ people gave to me.”
“Why do you hate your family so much?”
I just laughed as I thought of all the possible reasons I could give her but knew there was no point. I would just get straight to the point. “They tortured me, every day of my life I was in that house.” I felt as my hands balled and a low growl grew in my chest. Even thinking of them makes me want to kill something.
“I know I don’t have the right to ask-“ I cut Cassie off. “You do have the right to ask. You’ve always had it.”
“How did they…” Her voice trailed off as she seemed to lose the courage to ask me, but I was going to answer all of her questions tonight.
“I was the runt. Everyone thought for sure I was going to be the omega. I was four foot flat the day before my 13th birthday.” The shock on her face showed me she understood how small I was.
“That’s smaller than-“
“Females? Yes I know. So my father and my brother would always make me play ‘king of the hill’ against fully mature wolves to ‘prove myself’. I lost every fight. My body could never fully heal.”
I looked up at my mate to see how she was taking all of this and it wasn’t well. She had decided not to look at me anymore as she played with her fingers in her lap. But I had one more thing to tell. One secret to help her understand why.
“Cassie. Look at me.” She looked up hesitantly before her beautiful blue eyes were locked with mine. “I won’t mate you because-“
“It’s okay. I’ll wait.” She frantically shot at me.
I shook my head at her. “On my 13th birthday I went through hell. It’s not easy growing from four foot to six foot overnight.”
Cassie wrapped her arms around her legs and pulled them closer to herself as she rested her chin on her knees to look at me.
