Perrie.
Alex
<<Perrie please, can we talk??>>
Alex
<<I know I messed up, but please give me a chance to explain.>>
Alex
<<You've got to understand, I was not in a good place. I'm sorry.>>

The texts kept coming in. She had received messages all night but kept ignoring them. She read them all the morning after, hoping to feel a bit more calm. Until she read that last one.

Perrie
<<I don't have to understand anything! I don't want to be 'understanding'. You cheated on me, that's the only thing I understand right now.>>
Alex
<<I didn't cheat on you. It was a stupid, meaningless kiss. I would never cheat on you and you know that.>>
Perrie
<<Except kissing someone else when you're married is called cheating.>>
Perrie
<<Also, If I remember correctly, you were the one making such a big deal out of the fact that a guy in a club had his hand on my thigh! Look how the tables have turned now.>>
Alex
<<I know and you're totally right. But I swear nothing happened.>>
Perrie
<<Did you want anything to happen?>>
Alex
<<Of course not!!>>
Perrie
<<Oh my God, that's the reason why you didn't want to have sex when we first saw each other that Friday! Because you knew you kissed someone else and you felt guilty.>>
Alex
<<I wanted to tell you about the kiss, I promise you. Then we ended up having such an amazing time, you looked so happy. I thought it was pointless throwing away everything we worked so hard to achieve for something so little.>>
Perrie
<<You're unbelievable! 'So little'?? Are you kidding me?? The only pointless thing is this conversation.>>

Perrie turned her phone off, tired of listening to Alex's excuses. She put a smile on to walk downstairs to her daughter. They stayed at Perrie's mum's the night before.
Sienna and her nanny Debbie were doing a puzzle at the table.
'Look at you two, so busy so early.'
'Mama! Look, we're doing my Paw Patrol puzzle!'
'I see! You're doing so well Si-si.'
Perrie and her mum walked in the kitchen.
'You look horrible.'
'Right, thanks mum.'
'You know what I mean. I can see from your eyes that you spent the whole night crying.'
'That's usually what happens when your husband cheats on you.'
'I know, it hurts. And in other circumstances I would be the first one to tell you to show him the door. But it's not just about you two. You've got a child together. And he's a great guy. I'm not saying just forget about it, but give him the opportunity to explain and redeem himself.'
'You're right, it hurts. I never thought he could do something like this. Why! How! And you know what's the worst thing about all this?'
Debbie looked at Perrie, feeling so sorry for her daughter.
'The things that hurts the most is that we slept together and he told me he loved me, despite knowing he was keeping that kiss a secret. Mum, I don't know if I can't do this. I love him more than anything but he lied to me and I don't know if I'll ever be able to trust him completely again.'

Alex.
<<You're the only one I want to be with. I love you.>> 8.05am
That was the last text Alex sent Perrie. For the rest of the day, he kept checking his phone for a text back.
Nothing.
12.00pm
He tried to distract himself: he went for a run, walked the dogs, took the longest shower.
3.00pm
He did the hoover, put the washing on the line, watched a couple of movies.
5.30pm
1 new message
Alex's heart skipped a beat as he opened that text.
The excitement vanished once he realised it wasn't from Perrie.

Jenny
<<Hey Alex. Hope everything's going well :) Are you still interested in getting your little girl a bunny? The ones we've got at the farm will be ready for adoption in two weeks or so, I can reserve one for you if you want x>>
Alex
<<Thanks but I'll probably wait.>>
Jenny
<<Oh okay. Just let me know when you guys are ready and I'll see what I can do ;) x>>

Alex threw his phone on the other side of the sofa. Jenny's name was the last name he wanted to see appearing on his screen.
He didn't know why, but something inside him was telling him to reply to her. He was angry at himself for feeling that way but he couldn't help it. When he kissed her that night, it was because he felt something. And no, he knew it wasn't comparable to what he felt for Perrie, but for one split second he thought that if he already jeopardised his marriage for that stupid kiss, he might as well just go all the way out.
As he picked back up the phone, he tried to convince himself that he couldn't fix his relationship with Perrie if he wasn't sure I didn't feel anything for that 'stranger'.

Alex
<<My wife found out about our kiss. Things are not great at the moment.>>
Jenny
<<Oh my God, I'm so sorry Alex! I know it meant nothing to you. If there's anything I can do to help...>>
Alex
<<Actually, I could do with a friend tonight.>>
