iii.
premonition

it has only been six and a half hours but i swear, it felt like an eternity for me. i don't get it, classes in the philippines are usually longer. but why is it that it feels more longer here? maybe because i've been alone the whole time? or maybe because each subject felt like 3 hours? i don't know.

it's already hard enough to be a foreigner in a country, paano pa kung maging transfer student ka sa klaseng magkakakilala na? talk about being out of place. bakit pa ako nag toothbrush, hindi rin naman pala ako magsasalita.

okay kidding aside, someone did try to talk to me. it was the dude sitting behind my chair. although he introduced himself, yung tanga 'kong memoy ambilis nakalimot. hmm was it daichi? kendai? kendall? dang, i forgot.

"hora hora! doesn't it look delicious? wanna try going there right now?"

i couldn't help but to overhear the conversation of a group of girls in my classroom. like all high school girls, of course they have plans after school. i used to do that all the time with my friends.

observing everyone in the classroom, i saw how everyone's already gotten close with each other. boys grouped with boys and girls grouped with girls. of course they're close, they've known each other for three months already while i just got here. trying to fit in their circle of friends would be like crossing borders illegally.

it's difficult.

and if i did pass the border, what next? i would still be different from them. so why would i bother?

sighing, i fixed my things and left the room.

while walking, i couldn't help but to think what to do. i don't need to hurry home because there's no one waiting for me at the house, i'm not hungry enough to go and look for places to eat like those girls do and i don't have friends to spend the rest of the day with.

hmm, maybe.. staying here wouldn't hurt. besides, i haven't gotten the chance to look around anyways so that's what i'm going to do.

she wasn't kidding when she said she'd explore the whole school because she did. from the first floor to the school's rooftop, she explored everything. well, almost. there was only one place left she haven't checked and she saved it for the last. the gymnasium. she saved it for the last because she knows this is where she'll release all of her remaining energy.

"walang tao.." she said while looking around. it's a good thing no one was around. because she didn't know if she was allowed to enter the gymnasium anyways.

her smile grew wildly when she realized the net was set up. as if the gods answered her prayer, erin clasped her hands and thanked them for giving her something she enjoys. maybe this will help her survive the school year.

she tied her hair up and grabbed the volleyball laying around. erin never tried joining her previous school's volleyball club because she thinks it wasn't something she needed to pursue. she finds playing volleyball as a hobby and not something she should pay much attention to. but that didn't mean that her skills weren't good.

in fact, it's the opposite.

if there's something erin is effortlessly good at, it's this.

"oi, don't we usually have mondays off?" iwaizumi said before yawning. "can't you just practice by yourself?"

"don't be so lazy, iwa-chan. how are we going to defeat shiratorizawa if we don't practice enough."

as the two athletes head to the gym, erin kept playing with the ball. she had no idea two of the volleyball team's players are about to enter the same gym. if she knew, she wouldn't do the thing she was about to do.

but she did.

erin spun the ball in her hands while scanning the bottle she placed at other end of the court. she was too busy concentrating that she didn't realize the two athletes had already entered the gym.

"what's a girl doing here?" iwaizumi asked oikawa, confused.

oikawa wasn't any different. he was as confused as iwaizumi too, but not because a girl was in the gym, but because of what she was about to do. he saw the bottle at the other end of the court, 'is she trying to hit the bottle?' he thought.

erin kept her eyes closed, ran a few steps before doing a jump serve that as expected, hit the bottle she was trying to aim. when she heard the bottle flew, erin couldn't help but to smile wildly. 'i still got it!' she thought.

but her smile faded when she realized there were two guys who just witnessed her amazing jump serve, and it didn't help that they were wearing their team's jerseys too. she knew she had to leave. immediately.

so, she grabbed all her things and gave them a quick bow. "s-sorry for using your gym!" she screamed before running away.

a moment of silence came between the two athletes. they couldn't believe what they saw. 'how can a girl jump serve with so much control while keeping her eyes closed?' that's what iwaizumi kept thinking.

"oi, am i seeing things or did a girl just do that?" he asked him but oikawa didn't respond. "oi, shittykawa, did you see th—"

"恋の予感..." the captain muttered.

"hah? speak louder you dumbass." iwaizumi said while looking at toru with his eyebrows colliding.

oikawa exaggeratedly grasped his chest and looked at the direction erin went. "k-koi no yokan! it's my premonition, iwa-chan."

"hah??" was the only thing iwaizumi could say.
