In Nargothrond, King Finrod stood in front of the door of someone of much lower status than him. That person was you. He had been trying to court you for the past few days. But you always rejected him. It wasn't because you didn't like him, because in reality, his golden hair and blue eyes absolutely enchanted you, and so did his gentle manner, but you were not sure if you were good enough to be married into royalty.

The king gently knocked on your door. He had some of your favorite flowers in his hand. You knew it was Finrod, as you know that he always knocks softly and you rarely get other visitors.

You always wondered how he managed to have some time just to ask you out. He is a king, so he must be busy. Yet he was always at your door and he would stay for a few minutes. It made you feel appreciated because it's incredible how a king like him would make time for a simple person like you.

"I know that I've been pestering you for so long." the golden-haired elf told you after you opened the door. "And I apologize. But... I love you. You've heard this from me several times... so please. Allow me to be yours."

You sighed, as you've heard him say similar things to you more than once. Just like the other times he tried to ask you to be with him, you were going to reject him. But deep inside, you didn't want to.

Finrod's fair face looked desperate. Oh, how adorable he is. The urge you had to shout, "Yes!" built up in you, until you thought about the responsibilities of being royalty.

"I'm truly sorry, my king." you said. "No. You see, you're a king, and I am just an ordinary elf. Why would you even love me?" The ellon frowned. It wasn't only because he just got turned down. It was also because of the question you asked.

"Are you saying that you don't deserve me because you're not of nobility?" he asked. You nodded. "I believe that as long as there shall be love in our relationship, the fact that you are 'low-status' does not matter."

He stroked your face with his fingers. "My answer is still no, your majesty." you told him.

"Please, call me Finrod. Also, are you willing to reconsider your choice?" Finrod asked. You took a deep breath, carefully thinking about how you will answer his question. Would you really reconsider? Your love for the king only grew stronger, but so did your worry.

What would the people of Nargothrond think of the king loving some commoner? Maybe you would be such a controversial topic!

But, maybe Finrod would love you and treat you so well that you'll forget and ignore the people who judge you. Also, does it really matter what the other elves think about your relationship with Finrod if you truly loved him? It actually doesn't matter.

You then remembered the major reason why you constantly rejected the king. Ruling a place was no easy task. If you were with Finrod, there's a chance that you'll have so many responsibilities... but being in courtship with the ellon would make everything worth it.

You were so lost in thought that Finrod had to call your name several times to get you back into reality.

"Finrod, there's a lot on my mind right now." you explained. "I might reconsider, I might not. Maybe my mind will be made up tomorrow." The elf nodded and handed you the flowers he got for you. You took them, the two of you bid farewell to each other and then you shut your door.

He was definitely going to return tomorrow. Were you going to turn him down again? Or will you confess your love for him? Finrod was such a kind and good-looking elf, and it was so hard to reject him; but there were several cons to being with him.

Then, at night, you deliberated over what you should do. What is the most important component in a relationship? It hit you like a ton of bricks. Love. And the thing is, you love Finrod. So you were going to accept his next request.

The next morning, as expected, Finrod knocked on your door. He had nothing to give to you this time. No flowers, no letter. When you that after opening your door, you were fine, for Finrod simply coming was the best gift.

"Good day. I understand that you are sick and tired of me." Finrod began. "When you first said no, I should have given up. No means no. But you constantly rejecting me will never put out the flame you set in my heart."

Finrod looked so sad and defeated. You were about to make him joyous with what you are going to tell him. "You set my heart aflame as well. My love for you only grows stronger."

The king of Nargothrond smiled. "Really? I'm so pleased! But why have you turned me away so many times if I managed to set your heart aflame?"

"Because I was scared." you answered. "I was scared of possibly becoming royalty. I was scared of what others would think. Of how they'd laugh at me because of my status. But I am not afraid anymore. So I will gladly be yours."

"Wonderful! If you still are afraid of being royalty and what others will think, I will make sure you are not scared and you are happy. I'm with you, and I'll always be with you." Finrod put his smooth hands on your arms. His silky hair shone in the light. "Even if we end up dying."

"And I'm with you forever, as well." You beamed at the elf and allowed your now lover in your home for a few minutes. He was relieved that you love him and he is to treat you like a fragile jewel and treasured you for a long time. Finrod cared for you, and you cared for him.

Times grew darker, and yet you still had the light of your life brightening up the dim parts of your life.
