I know that now is not the right time to write about being sick but bear with me here. I'm practicing my Sindarin a lot now, so expect several Sindarin phrases from now on.

Also, I've been listening to elvish music such as A! Elbereth and it inspired me to write the oneshot that's coming after this one.

This morning, you woke up feeling stuffy and extremely warm. Soon it came to you; you were sick. As you were of the race of Men living among the elves in Lothlórien (elves can't get physically sick), you had no clue on how you fell ill

Haldir, your husband, had seen your face and felt that your skin was burning hot. Being an elf who hasn't experienced anything like this before, he was very confused. Maybe you just woke up warm and weary and it's a normal Man thing.

"My flower, are you alright?" Haldir asked.

"No." you answered with a stuffy voice. Part of your nose was blocked, meaning that you could only breathe out of one nostril. This feeling always made you long for the days where you could breathe normally. "I think I may have fallen ill."

Haldir scrunched his nose. This elf obviously knew what it meant to be sick, but what were you sick with? Was it a fatal illness? How could he help you? You knew that it was something minor, but your husband wasn't too sure.

"Do you know what you are sick with?" Haldir sat on the bed next to you and ran his fingers through your tangled hair.

"I do believe that it's just a cold" you explained. "I'm just going to have a fever, where my body is much warmer than usual for long periods of time, and my nose is going to be stuffed, and possibly some other things. It will pass. Just allow me to stay in bed."

The elf smiled slightly and stood up. He told you that he was going to get you anything you needed. Right now, all you need is something to cool yourself off with, a handkerchief, and some water.

"Of course I will get you those. Anything for you, melamin." The elvish phrase that came out of his lips meant "my love." And you knew this because Haldir had been teaching you Sindarin ever since you became friends. You are getting the hang of it, although you still struggled in some areas.

After some time, Haldir walked into the bedroom with everything you asked for. He placed a cold fabric on your forehead, handed you a handkerchief, and placed a cup of water on a nearby table.

You thanked the Silvan elf, knowing how much he cared about you. Haldir cared about you a lot. No matter what situation you were in, even if you had issues that only you could have, he tried his best to sympathize and fix you up. And you did the same, even if he was in a more elvish situation.

"Hannon le, meleth." you told Haldir. It felt strange to hear the elvish dialect come from you. Even after the many lessons you did with your beloved. The words felt... foreign.

"I see that you have been paying attention to our lessons." Haldir said with a smile. "Now, go get some rest. Elei velui, bain. I shall be with you in some time."

Since you felt horrible, you found it quite difficult to go to sleep. Haldir had left to patrol the borders of Lórien, so you were all alone at the moment. This was normal and it happened every day, but the feeling of your stuffy nose and your nose constantly running made you long for Haldir.

What made things worse was that he wouldn't be back for hours. You drank from your cup of water and shut your eyes. At last, after struggling to, you fell asleep and woke up to a gentle kiss on your forehead.

"Haldir, you have returned." you said. "I missed you."

"I can only be here for a while." Haldir told you. His face was close to yours, meaning that you can feel his breath on your skin. "Do you need me to bring you anything?"

"Just stay with me for a while. Please. An ngell nin." you paused. "How long can you stay?"

Haldir smirked and laid down beside you, his arms around you. There was sunlight beaming in from the outside, yet the room looked grey and dim. "In half an hour." the elf softly whispered.

Although you still felt very sick, having the blond elf by your side was quite comforting. The coolness of the room hitting your skin gently helped you feel a bit colder, but the warmth from your fever did not go away. Even though it has only been a day since you were able to, you missed being able to admire the trees of Caras Galadhon. The trees varied in color, from silver to green, and were arguably the most beautiful things you have ever seen.

Half an hour later, Haldir realized that he had to go. He hated to leave you on the bed, feeling awful, but he had no choice. The borders must be protected so no evil will get you or his brothers, Rúmil and Orophin.

You saw him get ready to leave and grasped his hand. He couldn't stay, and you knew it, but you desired for him to remain with you and take care of you. You were ill, and he made you feel better.

The elf stared at you quietly, waiting for you to speak. No words escaped from your mouth for some time. It was just silence in the room. Tense silence. Finally, you broke it.

"I don't want you to leave today." you admitted. This phrase made you feel so selfish. He had to stay because you say so? That isn't  how life works. Besides, you were only with a cold. It wasn't a big deal. "Oh, man, I'm sorry. That was selfish."

Haldir pecked you on the lips and stroked your hair gently. The sad look you had in your eyes while you sniffled and shivered broke his heart. You looked sick and miserable and he hated that. However, he needs to leave. There was no other choice.

"You aren't being selfish, melamin." Haldir assured you. "You are not feeling well, and you need comfort. Alas, I must protect our borders. I shall return to you later, I promise." He kissed you softly, and left to do his job.
