His eyebrow rose in a challenge. "Oh really? how do we save Gwen's dad if the gods within gain consciousness?"

"Not to mention Henry still wants you for whatever sick reasons he has planned." His gaze seared accusingly at me. "He also knows you're a person with a big heart. You'll turn yourself in just to avoid someone's death."

I glared at him. "Gwen is in this situation because of me. She was the only person Henry could get close to when he first arrived. I'm the reason she and her dad are victims. This is all my fault."

Zion's eyes widened for a fraction. His hands fidgeted at his side. A sign of frustration.

I continued. "I know our time is limited, but it doesn't mean we should give up."

I expected him to sympathize with me but instead, he remained stoic. Unfazed. I guess he has already made up his mind.

I sighed and stepped around him. He grabbed my upper arm and pulled me back.

His voice was low and deep as he spoke to my side. "You don't get it, Penny. The last time you met Henry, he broke your arm, tried to kidnap you, and left an effing hickey. Something tells me it'll be worse if you meet him again. Don't you get I'm trying to avoid that?"

My eyes shifted to his. For a minute, I felt a slight tint of anxiety. Henry's statement was still rooted in memory.
