I pressed firmly against the wall. My lips parted as Liam hunched to the ground. He pulled his red hoodie over his head, releasing a grunt.
I watched as his shoulder blades altered against his spine. They glittered under the moonlight -- dark and foreboding.
Liam released a cry as the two scars on his back ripped open. My breath hitched when something dark unfolded. They stretched wide, spreading across the sky and blocking out the moonlight.
Like an awakened beast, horned bat-like wings morphed into shape. His nails elongated and what seemed to be black scales masked over his inner arms and the sides of his torso.
It reminded me too much of the red-eyed demon. Every instinct told me to run. To get away from him as far as possible.
I tensed when Liam lifted his gaze. Cat eyes stared back. His cheekbones were peppered with dark scales.
I shook my head, drowning in disbelief. "Your one of them. The demons."
Two tails whipped to his sides and his canines glinted under the moonlight. With a guarded expression, he spoke. "We are not exactly demons."
A lot of questions swamped my thoughts; each more confusing than the last. The red-eyed demon came into memory.
We're coming for you.
If Liam is one of them, I shouldn't be alone with him. I rose to my feet and hesitantly backed up.
"I'll never try to hurt you. You should know that by now." He said almost immediately.
