Joey’s POV

Ever since yesterday, I haven’t been able to get Mark out of my head. He seemed so calm and level headed. He was also pretty funny. I laughed at the thought of the stuff we talked about. Cat and I were working at the restaurant. Everyone kept asking how I was feeling since Cat said I was sick yesterday. I told them all I was fine, but fine was an understatement. I was felt exuberant. I couldn’t stop smiling since I met Mark. So, hiding my smile in the car from Cat was a challenge. However, I wish I knew what he looked like. As much as I loved playing chess with him, I would like to see his face.

“Excuse me, sir,” a customer asks. “Sir, excuse me.”

I snapped out of my thoughts after hearing the customer raised his voice a little. “I’m sorry. I got lost in my own thoughts,” I say.

“It’s fine. It happens to everyone,” he says. “I was just going to ask for our check.”

“Okay,” I say. “I’ll be right back.”

I walk over and fix up their check. “Hey Joey,” Luke says.

“Hey Luke,” I say. “How are you?”

“Good,” Luke says. “How have you been?”

            “I feel a lot better,” I say.

“No, I mean how have you been,” Luke asks. “After talking to Cat yesterday, I got concerned. Is everything alright?”

“I was having to clear my head and relax,” I said. “Something happened awhile back and the effects of it resurfaced a few days ago.”

“Oh, so you’re all good now,” Luke asks.

“For the most part, yes,” I say, thinking about Mark for a second.

            “What’s that,” Luke asks.

            “What’s what,” I ask.

“That glint in your eye,” Luke says. “You only do that when you have someone on your mind.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say, trying to hide my nervousness.

            “Uh huh, sure,” Luke says.

“Yep,” I say, my mind drifting back to Mark.

“So, what’s his name,” Luke asks.
