In Our Dreams

This is a soulmate AU where when you turn 16, you start dreaming about your soulmate's daily life. Only, your soulmate isn't real. He's fictional.

~(Y/N)’s POV~

I yawn, waking up to the sound of my alarm. I look at my poster of my favorite character, wondering why I saw him in my dream last night.

I stand up and place a hand on the poter sadly.

“If only you were real…” I whisper, going about my daily routine. I hum softly, getting dressed and brushing my (H/L) (H/C) hair. I put on my hoodie and go to school, sighing sadly.

‘If only it were UA…’ I think to myself.

~Denki’s POV~

I sit in the common area, stirring my cereal thoughtfully.

“Hey buddy, what’s got you lookin so down?” asks Kirishima, walking up to me. 

“I saw her again…”

“Who? The girl from your dreams?”

“Yeah… she seemed so sad… but she has posters of me in her room, which is kinda cool.” I whisper.

“Maybe she’s your soulmate.” Kiri says, smiling.

“That’d be nice, but she keeps going on about how I’m not real… I wonder what that could mean.”

“Well, have you heard the theory of multiple universes?”

“Well, yeah.”

“Maybe you two are just in different universes! Like, maybe you’re a comic book character in her universe!”

“Then how am I supposed to meet her?”

“Maybe there’s someone with a quirk that could help you.” Kiri says, pouring a bowl of cereal for  himself.

“Maybe…” I whisper, perking up a bit. I scarf the rest of my cereal.

“Thanks Kiri! You’re the best, man!” I say, running out. I go to the class really early to start researching heros and past heros to see if anyone had a quirk that could help me. 

“Hah, Universal! I’ll have to see if I could visit her someday.” I say, smiling widely.

~(Y/N)’s POV~

I sigh. It’s been several months since the dreams started and I wish they’d just stop… I get that he’s my soulmate… but I don’t understand how I’ll ever meet up with him.

I went about my daily routine and decided to go for a walk after a while. I see other people with their soulmates, happy looks on their faces.

“Stupid soulmates… stupid destiny.” I whisper, sniffling a bit and wiping my eyes as I round the block.

“I’ll never even get to see mine outside of the anime… so how will I ever be happy?” I mutter, wiping my eyes. I stop by a convenience store on the way home and pick up a couple monster energy drinks.

“Time to binge watch and cry.” I mumble, walking up to my room once I got home.

~Denki’s POV~

I walk into Universal’s hero agency and walk to the secretary.

“H-hello, I h-have an appointment for 1.” I stutter. She smiles and stands up.

“Mr. Kaminari, Ms. Universal has been very excited about meeting you. Right this way.” She says, leading me to the office of Universal.

“Alright, here we are. Remember, keep smiling!” She says, opening the door for me. I smile and walk in, bowing slightly at the waist.

“M-Ms. Universal! I-it’s a pleasure to meet you ma’am.” I stutter. She lets out a soft giggle and walks up to me.

“The pleasure’s all mine! Now, tell me more about your case.” She says, leading me to a comfy looking seating area. I sit down and take a deep breath.

“Well, when I turned 16, I started getting my soulmate dreams, but I don’t think she’s here… in this universe… she keeps saying she wishes I were real… a-and she has posters of my in a cartoon-looking style on her wall. I-I’d love to be able to go meet her.” I whisper, blushing.

“Oooh. This is a rare case but not unheard of. I can take you there… for the price of you showing me you quirk. I love seeing how everyone’s quirk works.”

“O-okay.” I say, demonstrating my power for her.

“Such a flashy quirk. You’ll make a great pro-hero. Now, I can travel to this universe, but only every 2 years… In two years, activate this button and I’ll be there to take you back.”

“C-can I bring her with me?”

“Of course! She’ll be quirkless though.”

“I don’t care. As long as she wants to.” I say, smiling. Ms. Universal smiles.

“Alright, and you told your teacher about this?”

“Yes. He even sent me the necessary work, I guess he knows how your quirk works.”

“Of course. Eraser came to me several years ago.” She says.

“Now, just take a deep breath and picture her in your mind. This won’t hurt a bit.”She says, grabbing my shoulders and activating her quirk. 

The next thing I knew, I was spit out onto the sidewalk in front of the all too familiar house from my dreams. I take a deep breath and walk up to the door, ringing the doorbell.

~(Y/N)’s POV~

I sigh and walk to the door, wiping my eyes. I look out the peephole to see…

“Kaminari?” I whisper, covering my mouth. I slowly open the door and look at him.

“C-can I help you?”

“Y-yes, I’m Denki Kaminari… I-I’m looking for (Y/N).” He says, rubbing the back of his neck. I walk out onto the porch and look him up and down.

“If this is a joke, I’ll kill you.” I whisper.

“N-no Joke (Y/N)... It’s me.” He says softly, his voice like music to my ears.

“H-how would I know?” I ask. He sighs and olds out a palm, sending some sparks flying.

“It’s me… I found someone with a universe jumping quirk… I had to come meet you.” He says. I crumpled to the floor, breaking down.

“H-how? Y-you’re a fictional character.” I whisper, sobbing. He places a hand on my back, rubbing gently.

“You’re not real! This c-can’t be…” I whimper, touching him. My hand didn’t go through him, instead it rested on the firm skin of my soulmate.

“It’s me… I’m as real as you, (Y/N). I needed to come here… to make you smile.” He says, his blond hair blowing in the wind as he smiled softly. I sob and lean against his chest.

“I-I can't believe it…” I whisper, shaking slightly with the force of my sobs.

“Well believe it… I’m here.” Denki says, petting my hair gently. I cry against his chest for a few more minutes before regaining my composure.

“I-I’m sorry you had to see that…” I whisper.

“It’s alright… I’m just glad I could be here for you this time.” He says, helping me up.

“L-let’s go inside… it’s chilly outside.” I whisper, leading him inside.
