Chapter 54

"A-are you fine now? I'll call Haer-"

"Jeno." Hyejin whispered. "Do you like me?"

"W-what?"

"Do you...like me?"

Jeno stopped on his tracks, frozen. Shallow breaths left his lips as he slowly turned to see the pale girl on the bed.

"What are you saying? You know what...I'll call Haerin. Just rest."

As the door closed, the boy stood frozen on his spot, still processing on what the sudden question was about.

Jeno sat on his bed, scolding himself for not telling the truth. He thought that if he said the truth then things wouldn't turn out like this anymore.

A sudden knock on the door made him stop his daydreaming and not long after, a girl he didn't want to see came inside.

A small smile was plastered on her face, looking all fresh and exquisite. Her small steps neared him and as seconds passed, the boy can feel his heartbeat race.

"Hey." She waved. "Are you okay?"

Jeno gulped, closing both of his eyes before "was nodding, indicating that he doesn't want to talk to her. She sighed, gathering up all the courage to sit on the edge of his bed.

"Jeno, I don't know what happened, but please don't be like this...I forgive y-"

"I never said sorry." He mumbled.

"Then...I'm not angry at you." She smiled.

"Come and eat."

"Hyejin...Please don't confuse me anymore."

"What?"

Jeno sighed and stood up, leaving Hyejin alone on his bed. He cleared his throat and opened the door before walking out.

Hyejin smiled sadly and looked at his bed sheets, holding it tightly to control the tears that wants to come out.

"What do you think happened to her?"

"I'm thinking that she's getting her memories back...I hope so."

They all stared at the girl on the couch; pale and looking lifeless. Her shallow breaths left her lips while sleeping peacefully.

"If she regains her memories back, it'll be a happy ending for you and her."

Chenle pointed at Jeno then back at Hyejin in which the others sighed before looking at Jeno who wasn't listening at all; staring at the girl lying on the sofa.

"What if she remembers her brother?"

"I hope she won't...I mean, I hope she doesn't remember his death."

The girl on the couch slowly bawled her fists, fighting the urge to cry. Her breathing got heavier making the others look at her weirdly; them worrying about her.

Suddenly, a grunt was heard making them all pop their heads on the side. Hyejin furrowed her eyebrows, slowly fluttering her eyes.

Jeno stood up, rushing unto her side and held her cheeks unknowingly. Looking up, her breath hitched from the sudden closeness and  there was only one word she can mumble.

"J-Jaemin."

The two looked up to see Jaemin with his hands lent up go her, smiling at the said girl. Hyejin smiled and placed her hand on top of his gently before walking away with him.

Jeno, on the other hand stared at the couch, looking lifeless as ever. A stray tear left his eye, rolling down to his cheek. He felt vulnerable and frustrated.

"I thought she's back."

Hyejin looked back, feeling sad and guilty at Jeno's state. She looked at Jaemin and pointed at her room in which he followed and helped her to get inside.

"Jaemin...I-"

"It's okay...He's just tired. Do-"

"No... I remember everything."

"What!?"

Jaemin yelled and Hyehin was quick enough to hush him, telling him to calm down. The boy furrowed his eyebrows while the girl fumbled with her fingers.

"I woke up an hour ago, and I heard everything that you guys talked about. I had a temporary memory loss as you guys have said earlier and my memories back."

"S-so...I-"

"I don't want the others to know yet... Specially Jeno...Will you please help me?"

"I-why?"

"I'm not ready to face Jeno after all the hardships he got because of me."

Jaemin sighed and held Hyejin's fumbling fingers. He hugged her slowly while nodding his head making Hyejin smile sadly.

"He'll be hurt more if he found out later on."

"I promise I'll make things right...just...keep on acting to be my boyfriend for now."
...

"Are you sure Jaemin's your boyfriend?" Jeno spat.

"Jeno!"

"No! Are you fucking sure he is!?"

"Jeno, stop!" Haerin stood up.

"What do you mean? Of course he is!" Hyejin quarreled back.

"Of course! Of course he is! Stay strong then."

Hyejin looked at Jaemin and the boy nodded, acting to comfort her while the others were shocked of what happened.
...

"Hyejin! Let's eat!"

Shaking her head, the girl shouted 'yes' before sighing heavily, practicing to smile as she looked at herself in the mirror.

She then walked outside of his room, staring downstairs where they all sat in the dining room, waiting for her. Jeno's back was the first thing she saw and she cleared her throat before plastering a smile on her face.

"I'm sorry Lee Jeno."
