Walk me home in the dead of night
I can't be alone with all that's on my mind,
So say you'll stay with me tonight
'Cause there is so much wrong going on outside.

I RISE FROM my seat. At once, a hush settles over the people in the conference room.

"I wish to abolish the title of Omega." I state. "From now on, they will be treated like any other pack member. The duties they had been assigned previously will be redistributed amongst all and they are, from now on, free to apply to any job of their choosing."

"Further more, no one is allowed to harm or touch them without their consent. Strict action will be taken against the offender, regardless of your status in society."

Disbelieving gasps ripple amongst my pack members. My father, watching this unfold, is the nastiest shade of purple. His furious glare is burning holes in the side of my skull. I pay little heed.

The Omegas had been granted permission to train like everyone else a long time ago. I had prohibited the higher level wolves from whipping and beating them as they pleased. To this day, the privileged bastards resented me for it.

But this would ensure that even in my absence, when future generations come, this rule would have to be followed without question.

"Is that all, Alpha Carter?" Cerberus' face is unreadable.

Oh, there's more...

I draw in a deep breath. Raise my chin high.

"I, Aden Carter, hereby resign from the position of Alpha of the Dark Wolves."

If the previous reaction was shocking, it's nothing compared to the commotion that ensues. Complete mayhem breaks out.

The four WereGuardians observe me over their thick rimmed glasses. Carefully. Calculatingly. They must be wondering if I'm even lucid at this point.

I don't blame them.

I'm aware of how I appear. Disheveled and messy, like I haven't slept in days. Like my ass was forcibly dragged into this room and planted in this seat.

A heavy pile of documents is stacked up beside them, all signed and sealed and ready to be put into motion. All that remains is the final verbal resignation.

Cerberus Custos slams his fist on the table. The sound reverberates through the room silencing all present.

The hue and cry dies down.

"Are you sure?" He questions. He tilts his head, considering me. "You do understand that by resigning from this post, you are now and forever giving up the claim to be Alpha?"

"Yes, Custos." I affirm.

A long sigh.

"Alright then." He closes the file. "Resignation accepted."

And just like that, it's done.

I'm no longer Alpha.

I don't wait for the room to empty. Before chaos breaks out again, I'm the first one out. Bracing myself against the relentless cold, I evade the jostling crowd and limp back the hospital.
