Burning

Sweat trickled down her face, trailing down along the delicate flesh of her neck as she felt like she was slowly burning from the inside out. Why was she feeling this way? Maybe she'd gotten a cold from swimming in the chilly lake a few nights ago, that'd help explain why she felt sicker than a dog who'd gotten into some rancid meat. Rolling onto her side she barely managed to swing her legs over the edge of the bed before her stomach churned violently. Racing to the bathroom the bile rose up in her throat, the bitter acidic taste spurred her to run faster.

Reaching the toilet she leaned over the ceramic bowl, gagging as her stomach heaved violently until she emptied the entire contents into it, her hair matted to her head as sweat coated her clammy skin. Weakly she stood up and made her way over to the sink, turning on the tap, she rinsed her mouth several times with the fresh cool water before drying her mouth off on a hand towel. Glancing up in the mirror she cringed at her image that was reflecting back. Bags were underneath her glazed eyes, dark circles from exhaustion underneath them were framed by blotchy pale skin. A soft knock sounded on the bathroom door and she could hear Belial's deep voice calling to her to unlock the door.

Making her way to the door she grabbed a thick fluffy white robe and wrapped our tightly around her waist as she went. Turning the knob she pulled door open. Belial had his hand raised as if he had just been ready to knock again.

"Jaclyn what's wrong baby? I hate to be so blunt but you look like shit darling." Worry was evident on his face and she couldn't help but smile weakly back at him, before what he'd said sink in and her sassy mouth got the best of her.

"Well that's definitely the first thing a woman wants to hear in the morning you asshole."

Slapping her hand over her mouth she stared wide eyed up at him as she inwardly cringed, uncertain how he'd react to her blatant disrespect. Damn whatever bug I caught, if I wasn't half out of my mind with how sick I've felt I'd have never just blurted that out like that. Suddenly toppling to the left she nearly slammed into the hard tiled floor, saved only by Belial quickly grabbing onto her firmly around the waist before she did. All thoughts of what she had said was forced quickly to the back of her mind as shards of pain erupted across her chest, blooming rapidly until her entire body was consumed by it. A scream ripped from her lips, which were lightly bleeding from where she'd bitten into the delicate flesh, as agony consumed her. Whatever was going on with her was no average sickness, she'd never felt this way before, not even the first time she'd met Belial as a young girl and sealed her fate through blood to his. No, this was the type of pain that robbed a person quickly of their sanity. Belial picked her up, the sudden movements caused shards of pain to jolt through her and she screamed again.

The room blurred around her as she felt them move forward, it was hard to track the world around her as she suddenly had tunnel vision. They had stopped moving and she felt herself being gently placed down on the soft mattress, it did nothing to ease the fire that ragged in her. Belial's cool hands tenderly brushed the damp hair away from her face, tucking the loose strands behind her. Time seemed to slowly pass by, the pain was relentless and she hadn't even realized Belial had left her side until a cool washcloth was delicately laid on her clammy forehead.

"Don't worry my little Jaclyn, this should all be over soon."

Biting down on her bottom lip roughly, sharp teeth sliced through the tender flesh and blood dribbled down her chin, his words didn't register as she tried in vain to hold back her screams of anguish. Please. Please.  Please.... God make this stop.

Make it stop......

Please.....

The thought echoed over and over in her mind and the world became distorted around her. God answered her pleas. With a loud snap her spine shattered, her extremities went limp and the pain seemed to dissipate from her body. Darkness soon consumed her.

*********

The world was blackened around her, she was lost. There hadn't been any sign of life, just a faint light that glowed in the distance. No matter how hard she struggled, racing onward the distance between herself and the iridescent glow never seemed to get any closer.  If anything it only seemed to get further and further away the harder she tried to reach to reach it.  Gasping for breath she placed her hands on her knees, her chest heaving as she fought to catch her breath.

"Jaci."

The voice seemed faintly familiar, only a whisper in the air as everything around her seemed muffled. Sitting up she tried to call out, realizing with horror she couldn't speak as her mouth was wide in a fruitless scream. The light in the distance began to flicker. Dread filled her, some instinct deep inside her urged her to get moving and fight her way towards the light. Standing up she went to step forward when something cold and slimy wrapped around her ankle. Looking down she immediately wished she hadn't.

A decrepit rotting hand was clutching tightly onto her leg, a ghastly looking creature with blood red eyes pulled her towards it. Jerking roughly on her leg she struggled to free herself from its grasp, stumbling forward as her ankle popped free from its hold. Scrambling to stay upright she began to run. The light flared brightly and her hope was renewed.  As quickly as the room had lit up darkness consumed the light and with that the only sense of safety she had in this place.

"Jaci."

There it was again. Someone was calling  her name from the blackness that shrouded her surrounding. A rustling noise sounded from somewhere to her left causing her to jump and twirl around to face where the sound had come from.  Pitch black darkness consumed everything around her and she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. She wasn't alone in this place.

"Run Jaci. Run now!" The urgency in the voice spurred her quickly on, it wasn't fast enough.

Something grabbed onto her ankles and she sprawled to the floor. Fruitlessly she clawed onto the smooth ground, trying in vain to stop herself from being drug backwards. The ground gave way beneath her and she fell...

*********

Blinking several times she opened her eyes. The world around her was blurred, slowly coming into focus as she blinked her eyes a few more times. That dream was so real, the terror she'd experienced was something she never hoped to ever relive.  Cool silk sheets caressed her skin as she stretched before lazily getting off of the bed and making her way towards the bedroom door.  Belial was nowhere in sight and she yearned to be close to him.

Swinging the door open she let out a shrill shriek as she jumped backwards. Belial, who was carrying a large tray laden with food, stopped in his tracks as he stared blatantly at her.

"Well good morning to you  sleepy head. Did you rest alright? I was trying to make you breakfast in bed but it looks like I'm a little bit too late." Smiling down at her his crimson eyes darkened with lust as he walked past her to set the tray down on.

Resting her hand over her erratically beating heart she tried to regain her composure before she spoke.  "I woke up just a few moments ago and was actually just coming to find you. Thanks for the food."

"No problem. Why don't you come over here and get something to eat."

Jaci felt her cheeks flush brightly as she realized she was just sitting there staring at him like an idiot. Walking towards him she spotted her reflection in the mirror and felt her stomach instantly churn as the sight before her. She screamed. Everything wasn't a dream after all....

A/N Half awake over here  :/ I had to make sure that I uploaded this chapter for everyone before I fell asleep lol, so be patient with me if there's any errors, I'll be going back and editing when I've got a little bit more time (last few weeks have been pretty hectic so I've been limited to writing when I've got a few spare minutes).

So tell me what did you think of the chapter? Did it make sense to you? The spot where you see **** marks where Jaci is in a dream like state, though she believes after that the entire night had been a dream until she spots her reflection in the mirror.  If you enjoyed the chapter please take a moment to comment or vote (click the box with the star) it takes only a quick second to do but it makes for one happy writer over here ;)

Any way I'll stop my rambling. I hope everyone has a fabulous week, till next time.
