Jeong-hyeok knew what he was in for, a series of testimonies that he would be repeating to different people on different occasions. From the time he heard the explosion, what level of altitude they were flying, what he did after, how he performed the landing...
"There's a lot of media requests for interviews. I suggest you turn them all away." The Operations Director advised in a dry tone, as though reading from a manual. "You could prepare a joint statement with your co-pilot and send it for our approval. Be ready to report to the KAIB. I suppose you have to take a couple of weeks off to recover."
No 'get well soon'. No 'good job'. Shortly after the Director left, he received a knock. The head of Pyo Chi-su revealed itself through the crack followed by Kim Ju-meok and Geum Eun-dong. Jeong-hyeok beckoned them to come in.
"Was that Director Cho just now?" Pyo Chi-su gestured, pointing over his shoulder.
"It was." Jeong-hyeok looked from one person to another, "Who drove among you?"
"I did." Ju-meok raised his hand, "How are you doing, Captain?"
"I'm fine. It's just the ankle." Jeong-hyeok threw a glance at his bound foot.
"It was really scary what happened yesterday." Eun-dong spoke, face bunched with worry.
"It's a situation that you should always expect and be prepared for." Jeong-hyeok advised Eun-dong as a brother-mentor would. "So you should take the time to regularly practice emergency procedures."
"As a famous pilot once said, 'Habits on good days become instinct on bad days.'" Chi-su quoted with arms squared, always out to illuminate the room with his knowledge.
"Captain Lee, you are really very cool." Ju-meok praised, mouth ajar with awe. "We were all worried but we knew you'd make it in the end. Do you know what they're saying on SNS now? They say you're an angel and a hero. The passengers really owed their safe landing to you. They said you were very professional."
It was the highest compliment, considering these were passengers whose lives were placed in mortal danger and rudely jostled in their flights. But Jeong-hyeok did not think it would be right to accept that compliment after they've gone through such a chaotic event, so he made a small closed-mouth smile. "It's part of our job."
