"I'm going to eat fifty cartons of ice cream and then pass out and die like a fucking warrior." Amidst the mess of black, two friends sat back to back. One's head down and face hidden, the other's head upturned to the sky.

Ashes rained down around them, the ground smoldering from the relentless attacks it suffered. The sky was lost behind clouds of smoke and fluttering embers. "Well... Maybe it's better this way..?"

The blackened soil shifted, a sharp, white bone sprouting from the ground. It grazed Killer's throat, red beads welling up from the cut. He winced and quietly apologized.

Overhead, thunder rumbled a warning. Dust ignored it, staring at the ground beneath him with a sullen expression. The tears had long since dried. He'd stopped his rampage hours ago, having sat down here immediately after. Killer found him still there after another few hours.

A soft breeze, bearing the smell of charred wood swept by, the harsh scent stinging Dust's sore eyes. "...It's not your fault you know. Nightmare's an idiot for dumping you."

Killer's voice was unwelcome. It sent prickles up and down Dust's spine, raising invisible hackles and setting off multiple fuses. Dust slowly sat up, his clenched fist pressed down in the dirt. Killer glanced back at the movement, his hopeful gaze withering as soon as it landed on Dust's heartbroken expression. Fat tears were filling the other's sockets, the eyelights warbling and fading at the edges. Killer was taken back at the amount of emotion, his own soul twisting painfully. "Dust?"

The other gave a choked laugh, his hands shaking. "The love of my life just decided I was worth fucking nothing." Killer flinched, opening his mouth to deny it, but Dust went on. "What am I supposed to do now? Why did everything go wrong?"

"Dust, wait-"

"I-I'm going to have to return it."

Dread started to flood Killer's mind, his sockets growing wide. He didn't want to ask. "Return what, Dust?"

Another bitter laugh, this one full of sobs. "He said no. He fucking said no, Killer." Dust's fingers uncurled, hand raising to reveal the one thing Killer hadn't wanted to see. A ring.

"He said n-no.."
