[Lost Child]

Nightmare stared at the child on his castle floor, failing over and over to process what he was seeing.

A child, in his castle.

It came through his portal.

And it wasn't doing anything but staring at him with enormous eyelights, the mismatched orbs wobbling.

His two idiots came through the portal, laughing and jeering at each other. Killer, leading Dust, turned to grin at Nightmare, a comment already on his tongue.

The child burst into tears, wailing something incoherent as it crawled away as quickly as it could, its cries cut up from the impact of its hands and knees on the cold floor.

Killer and Dust both froze, staring at the sobbing child that was scurrying down the hall like an animal.

Nightmare stared after it, unblinking, until the child scrambled to its feet and dashed further into the castle, vanishing around the corner.

Slowly, he turned to look at Killer and Dust, his fingers twitching. "What. Is that. Still. Doing. Alive."

The two of them shook their heads, spitting denials of every type.

"Shut your mouths! I don't want excuses, I want that thing captured and caged before it damages anything!"

Dust and Killer scrambled away instantly, taking off down the hall after the child, whose cries had faded into distant echoes.

Cross huddled in the corner of the dark room, shaking hard enough that his bones rattled. What was happening? Where was he? Why were there scary monsters? He remembers seeing the short one hurting a lady, and the red light one laughing when she fell asleep, and then the glowy circle wall lit up behind him and it touched him and pulled him into here, but why?

He sniffled quietly, rubbing at his runny nose with his arm. He was hiding in a dark room, so he was safe now, but it smelled funny and the floor was wet. He wanted to look for a light, but the walls were damp too and it was gross, but he really didn't like this room.

The door rattled. Cross slapped his hands over his mouth, the wet stuff on his fingers getting into his mouth, tasting coppery and weird. The handle twisted, a tiny squeak escaping him. Warm tears built up in his eyes high, his vision watery.

It was still clear enough that he could see the big hole on the skeleton's head when the door opened. A long thing was on the monster's shoulder, another sleeping human, Cross noticed, and there was a big red light on the monster's face.

Cross stiffened, trembling all over, staring at the new, scarier monster, who stared back at him surprised. The monster smiled suddenly, and Cross was screaming when the monster grabbed him.
